This aerial view of St. Peter extends from the Broadway Bridge on the right to North Fourth Street on the left and from Grace Street along the bottom of the image to the northern limits of the city. The boulevard along North Minnesota Avenue that began at Skaro Street is clearly shown.
Aerial view from the south village limits of New Brighton was taken by MacGillis & Gibbs Company, a pole yard company, which is seen in the lower half of the photo. Notable buildings include the First Congregational Church, New Brighton Elementary School, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and the New Brighton Village Hall.
The Aftenro Society was organized in 1908 by a group of Norwegian women to raise money for the construction of a good Christian old people's home. Their first building was opened in 1921 with 30 residents and was named for the Norwegian word meaning �Evening�s Rest� (Aftenro). The Aftenro home presently continues its function as a home for the aged, in its location at 1423 North Nineteenth Avenue East. In this view of the new building, the entire front grounds area is a vegetable garden.

This photograph shows the aftermath of a lumber yard fire in St. Peter. Grace street is at right. Identified structures include Old Main, the city water standpipe, the Konsbruck Hotel, Feldman's tin shop, the high school, and the Central Hotel.
Despite the fact that the new St. Benedict's Hospital boasted of a modern heating system, an operating room, two private rooms, wards, and a kitchen, only ten patients were received during the first two months. The sisters began to worry about their hospital project until a cyclone swept over St. Cloud and the neighboring towns killing 58 and injuring hundreds. It wrecked all in its wake but the hospital which became the center for rescue work. The sisters toiled for 48 hours before relief came from the Twin Cities and neighboring towns. The catastrophe broke down the prejudice against hospitals and, thereafter, St. Benedict's Hospital did not lack patients; at the close of the second year of service, the number of patients received reached 400. When over-crowded conditions forced the sisters to build a new hospital, St. Benedict's Hospital was converted to an academy of art and music (Saint Benedict's Monastery Archives , McDonald, page 254).
