The Atwood Memorial Center was constructed in 1966. Additions were constructed in 1972 and 1993.

Brooks coached the 1980 Olympic gold medal winning men's hockey team, as well as coach at the University of Minnesota and the NHL's Minnesota North Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New Jersey Devils.
