State Crews
Preparing For
Winter's Invasion
Spurred by early fall snows in
Northern Minnesota, State Highway Department maintenance
crews have been busy preparing
the real onslaught of winter
fd are ready to meet any challenge which might be thrown at
them.
Almost 1,000 miles of snow
fence have been erected at needed
locations on the 11,900 miles of
state trunk highways. Plows and
other snow removal equipment
have been repaired and put in
shape during the summer months.
Supplies to aid in the removal of
ice and sleet have been stored at
strategic     locations.     Agreements

HIGHWAY NEWS will be issued monthly to all employees of
the Highway Department to give all of you an opportunity
to learn t.iore about your fellow-workers and your department. It is your publication.
We hope, too, that it will serve as a source of information
about department policies, changes in employee benefits,
and other data of official nature which may eliminate some
of the many circulars now being issued.
The editorial board will always welcome your criticisms, suggestions, story ideas, and pictures in an effort to make all of
you WANT to read HIGHWAY NEWS.

Choraliers Score Hit
At Inauguration
Grouped around the balcony overlooking the rotunda of the state
capitol, Central Office employees
were featured during the inauguration of Governor C. Elmer Anderson last month. The fine fifty
voice singing gcotir), the Hiwayan
Choraliers, entertained the ma;-5y
visitors with appropriate longs.
The Choraliers made th:ee appearances. They first sang a group
of numbers before the principals
entered, then held everyone's attention as they opened the ceremonies with the Star Spangled
Banner. Following the administration of the oath of office, the singers   serenaded  the  new   governor

the Choraliers with their fine singing; (2) Dan Magraw, Ray Lappegaard and Mar-
orie Liljenberg of Personnel had an informal chat with E. P. Lee, Drivers License, at
I Youngclahl's  reception.   (3)   The   Choraliers'   director,   Mary   Schroepfer,   offered
best wishes to Mrs. Anderson as Jeanne Schadt had a word with the governor.
(4) This is what the Choraliers saw from their vantage point as Chief Justice Loring
administered the oath. (5) The Hiwayan Choraliers as they sang in the capitol rotunda. (6) Public Information Director "Johnny" Johnston greeted Gov. i .id Mrs.
Anderson. (7) Bee Goodell, Administration, offered her farewell to Gov. Y-.ungdahl
as Vince Bovitz, Public Information, waited in line when the Highway employees attended the reception for state employees. (8) Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Kipp had a pleasant
word with the Andersons.
