Y.W.C.A.m DANCE HELD
In retaliation for the dances that
the Y.W.CA. girls attended, here at Fort
Snelling, we were all invited to attend
.a dance held last Friday at their club
.rooms in St. Paul. The platoons were
well represented.
The dance floor was crowded to the
capacity with many enthusiastic .couples.
That Halloween spirit prevailed and the
smiling faces of the Headquarters Co,
showed they appreciated the invitation.
DRAMATIC CLUB MEETS
The second meeting of our Company's
dramatic club was held Tuesday. This
club, still in its infancy, issued a call;
once again to anybody that will take an
interest in the producing of a play.
The person who lias had the experience andj
still wishes to join only has to attend
the meetings held at regular intervals.
Several plays were brought foreward
of which one is to be selected. This
play will comprise a cast of about, four
or five actors. Robert Hedrick, the
director, finds he has plenty of materiaL'
to work upon to bring our first play to
a success.
FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN
FOR SERGEANT BENNETT
Amid the plaudits and well wishes of
the Company, together with speeches,
songs, music and lots of beer, our beloved Supply Sergeant^ Harold D. Bennett
bid farewell to us at a beer supper last
Wednesday night in the messhall, Sgt,
Bennett left for a one month furlough
before retiring from the Army on Nov, 30,
Festivities began with a very excellently prepared dinner at noon, Several
officers wore guests and sat at a reserved table with Sarge Bennett, The Sarge
could barely speak as he arose to say a
few words' after Lt. Jensen had announced
that the dinner was in his honor.
The beer supper began at 4:30. There
was plenty of cold meats, pretzels, rye
bread, p»p corn and cheese crackers to
eat and lots of beer to drink.
At the table with Sergeant Bennett sat
Captain Rodman, Lieut. Jensen, Lieut.
Cameron, Lt. Lawrence from-Company 2714,
Warrant Officer Eurns, 1st Sgt. Kankla
of "C" Company and Pvt, Eaton of the
Ser\ice Company
All of the guests gave short speeches
stressing the loyalty of Sgt. Bennett.
Also many members of the Company were
called upon by the Master of Cereomonies,
Wilson Carney, and they mentioned certain
incidents, humorous and sincere about
the "Sarge",
As our guests would have us believe,
we were losing one of.-the best "Chislers"
in the Post, They all mentioned that when
ever it came to getting a shipment of
clothes for us, Sgt. Bennett always came
out on "top" of the deal, and anything
that we were entitled to get, he got it
for us..
The members of the Company contributed
to a fund for the purchase of a radio
and table as a parting gift and it was
presented to the Sergeant in the course
of the evening.
Never was there a more heartfelt, more
touching farewell given anyone. And just
as much as Sgt. Bennett hated to leave
so did the entire Company and Command
hate to see him go.
