Vol. 1, Edition 15 Camp Snelling, Minnesota January 31, 1935
KAIIGr.R00 COURT HELD :
•
On Tuesday evening, January 29, 1935, •
a tribunal of justice was held in Platoon •
number One here at Headquarters Company* •
Tho case, the first of its kind hold here :
had many amazing'aspects. Some of the :
facts that wore brouht out into the open :
scorned to hold.-the audience spellbound. .;
Perhaps the most interesting feature of •
the case was the auditory statement made I
by the co-defendant and the plaintiff.
/mother high light v/as the neatness of :
the Court proccedurc.
Raphael McDonald was appointed' as ;
judge advocate. The selection wr.s indeed j
a wise one as Mao showed true' ability in •
dealing with this casci ' :
The defendants, one, Oscar Moss by :
name, and one Winfred DcGarmo by name,., •
selected a battery of legal talent com- . |
prised of the suave Horry Klassy, John •
Chamberlain (noted for his astuteness), '•
and Vcrn Hclgoson, the silent partner,
'Henry Grabscheidt, the plaintiff, ap- •
pointed tho pentrating Vcrncn J. Curtis ;
as his lawyer thereby showing that he him-;
self was not to be outdone by the co-dcf- <
ondants, ;
I.J-• Jones was called upon later in the :
case to clear up several points that con- :
fused the jury. Only after* a barrage of . ••
quostions did he appoint Vcrn Helgcsori to ;•
represent him in the court. '.
Cecil Gocsncr, a member of the jury :
took a very 'active interest in the case, :
and by his questioning brought"forth many •
interesting points to consider. ;:
Bud Edwards, Al Brcvm, Toby Hilcr, Cr. \
Hamilton, A.B. Wheeler, Rodney Hodg-.s, and!.
Mike' Bruning were tho other members of tho;
jury. ;
After a hard fought battle, DcGarmo wasJ
dismissed from the case. Oscar .boss was '.•
given a slight punishment and the plain- :
tiff was warned to be more carcfull in the;'
future, '
-. <
Although it too1-: quite a time to select'
members that were capable of dealing with ',
such a case they worked hard to sec that ;
{justice was mettod out. ' «.
