Johnny Burke Wins
Johnny Burke, 719's 'top
notch1 battler, won a decisive victory over his
Gooseberry Gamp opponent
last Sunday, by scoring a
technical knockout. The
fight was held in the ring
at Gooseberry Cramp, as an
event of entertainment for
the picnicers, who were
enjoying an outing at that
camp site. In spite of a
little drizzle, the fight
was staged. Johnny, at 138
pounds had quite an advantage over the Gooseberry
lad, who weiahed in the
vicinity of 125 pounds,
Regardless of this disadvantage, the Gooseberry
lad went in the ring with
high spirits, but they
were soon to bo vanished,
as he found that Jofcnny
was a little too good for
him. The bout was stopped
in the second round because the Gooseberry boy
was 'taking' a little too
much. Hl was a game kid,
but Johnny's 'hurricane'
left seemed to drain him
of the 'scrap' ho entered
thc ring with, when the
bout was stopped, the boy
'sas somewhat groggy but he
left the ring with a smile
Johnny,was'the -argrosser
throughout the fight,which
forced his opponent to
take up the defense and
make the best of it. As it
.was, the best wasn't good
enough.
Nice work, Johnny.
