Unlucky Bears Move On
by Marius Morse
Collecting of inventory data on .a
game study area is not all hiking and-

cording to one, Otto Xuehne, who accidentally ioeated, only a week ago
yesterday, a mother bear and her three
ten month old cubs - in the act of hi-
berration in a spruce swamp and less
than \ mile from Highway #4, not far
from the Banger Station,
Hurriedly making an observation
on his most unusual'find', Mr, Kuehne,
proudly returned to camp with the 'big
news' which wasn't news at all by 'the
time he had arrived.
Little tmie was lost in making
plahs to pay the hibernating bears a
second visit on the morrow. It was a
red letter day •• mark thht ddwa. in
your little notebook., for one of the
rarer sights of Nature was viewed by
three of the more curious on that Sat-«
urday morning.
Camera lens pointing at this view
and that - no less than S •traps' were
taken to record the unusual actions of
the sleepy bears that were most rudely
awakened from a deep winter slumber*.
It took a lot of yelling and general
noise-making to arouse the drowsy animals - even at siz feet.
Surprisingly enough, the 'hibernation bed' was found to be but iu the
open swamp, protected only partirlly
by tho lower branches of a young tree*
