January 9, 1968
The Northfield Arts Guild Board of Directors met with the following members
present: Bond, Sathrum, Sykes, Johnson, Buck, Geistfeld, Medin and
Palmquist.
The secretary's report was read and approved as corrected.
The treasurer's report was read. Balance as of January 9 is $1, 517.86.
The Arts Guild was asked to sponsor a contest for a town seal which would be
used as a symbol for Northfield. The Guild would make suggestions, encourage
people to enter and judge and award the prize. The symbol could be used on
police cars, fire equipment, ehicles of city officials, and also as letterheads on
official stationary and billing. Pat Brust will be asked if she wants to handle it.
A report on the Beaux Arts Ball was given by Echo Kingsbury, co-chairman.
The ball will be held on Saturday, February 17 at the Golf Club. Theme this
year is " LUV" . Tickets are $10 per couple. The Tom Rossings are the other
co-chairman.
Marie Sathrum reported on the Music Division. Burr McWilliams may be
available to teach a music appreciation class in June. On Thursday, February
1 5, a 200-voice chorus (from the community) will sing the Messiah with the
Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.
Myrna Johnson, chairman of the Drama and Dance Division, announced that
dance classes will begin the end of January or beginning of February. Almost
700 people attended the two performances of Amahl and a profit of approximately
$145 will be realized. Creative dramatics for grades 1 thru 6 will be taught by
Marilyn Carver. Comming events: John Brown's Body: 24-25 February; and
Pygmallion: 15-16-17 March.
It was announced that Maria Guthrie will definitely teach Interior Decorating
next year.
Margaret Wiltz has accepted the position as Treasurer of the Board. She will
assume her duties this month.
The nominating committee for the 1968-1969 Board are Marie Sathrum, Dottie
Palmquist and Myrna Johnson.
Larry King, who lives next door to the NAG building, is the new custodian.
The NAG Directory was mailed with week. Extra copies are to be sent to
Mrs. J. Wang, Welcome Wagon hostess.
The Christmas lighting project was successful. Many businessmen in the
community requested assistance during the project. The winners were
announced in the Northfield News.
Dave Medin has announced plans for a Clean-Up Day in the Spring.
The Membership Drive will be held in April or May. The Board approved
accepting new memberships now for the following year.
It was decided that a Constitutional Change Meeting be held after the Spring
Musicale in order to take advantage of the number of members present in order
to provide a quorum. If the constitutional change is accepted the Annual Meeting
will be held directly afterwards.
