CHARLES THOMPSON MEMORIAL HALL
November 5, 19l6, will stand as a red letter day
in the history of the deaf people of Minnesota, inasmuch as it marks the dedication and formal opening- of the Charles Thompson Memorial Hall, a love
offering to perpetuate his memory, bestowed upon
the cbaf people of Minnesota by Mrs. Margaret
Thompson.
The skies were propitious to the occasion, for it
was a lovely Indian summer day. Invitations had
been issued to all the deaf people of the state whose
addresses were known, as \\e\\ as to many hearing-
friends. Long before three o'clock, the hour fixed
upon for the opening of the ceremonies, crowds began to arrive. They came from all quarters, from
the Twin Cities, from the rolling prairies of the
west, from the wooded hills of the north, and from
the populous towns and fertile fields of the south.
Every seat in the auditorium was filled when the
Chairman called the assembly to order, and the lobby was filled with standing persons. A conservative estimate places the number in attendance at
about five hundred. Most of these were deaf peo
ple, though there was a liberal sprinkling of hearing friends.
The following program had been prepared, and it
