White people enjoy seeing Indians make
I fools of themselves and Indians are stupid
enough not to know that the whites are laughing at them. The towns all around the Indian country have fairs, "rodeos", "roundups", and carnivals. They invite the Indians
to parade and dance in paint and feathers.
We know Indian farmers who have had oats
all ready to cut. but when the fair time came
they dug out of their moth-eaten bags the
feathered head dresses and heathen toggery
of their grandfather. They put these on and
1 hurried to town to make a show for white
people, who gave them a little free beef and
ten dollars. These Indians lost hundreds of
dollars on their farms that they left behind.
j No white farmers would do that. And when
the white farmers who come to the show hear
I of it they laugh and say, "that's just like
\ fool Indians!"

HOW LONG WILL INDIANS BE LAUGHED AT
When the white farmers go to town to see
a show, a fair or a rodeo, they go for one day
and get right back that night to take care of
their farms. WThen the Indain farmers go to
a fair they go and camp and stay many days.
Then they go to the next fair and the next.
They never go home till all they left there is
spoiled. So they have nothing. The summer
is gone and nothing is laid up for the winter. |
