John Borgerding & Co.
C. A. Virnig, who resides
just southof town, has recently had the fotndation of his
house repaired, John Mandt
doing the work*. It may be
recalled by the old residents
of Pierz, that Mr. Mandt
built that house thirty-two
years ago, for Christ Virnig,
long deceased, father of the
present owner of the place,
and brothers'^ of this village.
Julia, the little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Virnig,
was (Operated on for appendicitis By Dr. Fortier, on Monday morning, at St. Gabriels
Hospital, Little Falls. It was
a critical case, but is doing as
well as could reasonably be
expected.

ELECTRIC LIGHTS
AND POWER
FOR PIERZ
At a meeting of the village
council of Pierz and T. C. Gordon, Mgr. of the Little Falls
Water Power Co. held Tuesday, June 15, a deal was practically completed, for trans
mission of light and motor
power from Little Falls to
Pierz. A contract was signed whereby a 25-year permit for right of way for wires
was granted to tne Power Co.
and which also provided for
ten arc lights to be furnished
to the village for a period of
ten years. Sufficient power
will be transmitted toaccomo-
date the flour mill, creamery
and all other mills or factories
that are liable to come here.
Pierz will be the only town
tmtside of the larger cities to
have a 24-hour service. As
the town already has excellent
water works and a good fire
departmeut, we venture that
do other town ofiits size in
the state is better equipped
with public works.
Frank Brummer Passes
Away.
Frank Brummer, the seventeen year old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Brummer,of this
place, passed quietly away at
2 o'clock Thursday morning,
June 24, after a long illness.
The funeral will be held next
Saturday morning at 8 o'clock,
at St. Johns church, Lastrup.
Training the Colt.
An old horseman remarked recently,
"If a man waiits to learn about horsea
ba must learn from horses." A man
to be successful must be with horses
and be a close observer of their moods,
manners and makeup. A colt should
DRUG STORE
FOR
PIERZ
The fine new drug store
building recently erected by
Dr. Seguin of this place will
soon be occupied by a up-to-
date drug stock. The proprietor is expected to arrive
very soon with a complete
line of drugs. Pierz has long
felt the need of a drug store
and we have no doubt it will
receive a lucrative patronage.
BASfBALL
The local base ball team
crossed bats with the Randall
team last Sunday afternoon
and won a hard fought battle
which required ten innings to
decide. At the end of the
ninth inning (he score stood
equal — eight and eight. In
the tenth inning Pierz scored
the winning run. The playing was not particularly brilliant, many errors being made
on both sidesl but this was
due partially to the poor condition of the grounds, the
game being frequently interrupted by showers which
made the ground and ball muddy and slippery. Pierz has
the material for a good ball
team an d with a little more
practice and encouragement
from the town people it will
compare favorably with any
of the teams in the larger
surrounding' towns. Every
town likes to have a base ball
team that can win and that
they can feel proud of, but in
order to do this theteam must
be supported financially. A
little more encouragement and
financial aid is needed by our
team. Tnis can be given if
more people will turn out and
pay the small admission fee
charged to ses the games.
