much more prevalent now than
in former times.

MINNEAPOLISCOUNCIL
AT MILLE LACS
The Minneapolis city council, who, with several gues s
and experts, were at Mille
Lacs lake from Friday until
Monday night inspecting- its
water with a view to getting- a
supply for the city therefrom,
seem< d to be favorably impressed with the conditions.
Tne party made a careful investigation of both the quantity and qualitv of the lake
water. They saw the lake at
its worst, as the water is now
at its lowest level and the vegetable growth is at its height.
Soundings were taken at many
places and the oft. r> peated
statement that the lake is only
a large shallow spot of water,
seems to be, at least partially
refuted, as the soundings
showed from 10 to 40 feet of
water at every place they were
taken.

A DOLLAR A YEAR
GAME PLENTIFUL
Little Falls Transcript: —
Game Warden Hart was in the
city Monday, havii g returr ed
from the eastern part of the
county. He left Monday af
ternoon for the southern part
of the county, where he goes
to ascertain whether the game
laws are adhered to in that
section.
In speaking to a Transcript
representative, Mr. Hart said
that the present conditions
point to good hunting for this
fall. The chickens, he says,
will be plentiful and have not
been frightened bv hunters
scouring the fields before the
opening of the season. The
rains of this spring came at
the proper time and did not
cause ths young birds to be
drowned as has been the case
in a good many localities in
past years.
The water fowls, according
to the warden, will be very
p entiful this sea-on. Mr.
Hart says that he has seldom
seen as many water fowls as
there are in this neighborhood
this season. He says that
wood ducks and mallards are
to be in abundance according
to thepresentoutlook and that
in the lakes there is plenty of
f 'Od to attract the birds.
So thick is the wild i ice this
season that a person can row
through it only with great labor in Rice lake. The crop of
rice will make a great feeding
spot for wild ducks and rice
hens. The latter fowl, while
looked upon with scorn by
some of the sportsmen, are to
be seen in great numbers.
These birds, though considered plebian by some of the
hu ters who would point their
guns at no game of less rank
than a mailard, are sought
after by scores of hunters and
when properly prepared are
■ tempting to say the least.
Mr. Hart says that he is experiencing but very little
trouble with game law breakers. Aside from the chase
he gave two men in Buckman
a week ago, Mr. Hart says he
has seen no illegal shooting-.
He looks for more trouble of
this nature as the open season
approches.
