DUSCHER GETS
SIXTY DAYS
Principal in Stabbing Affray in
Pierz Last Fall Not Given
Option of Paying a Fine
Jac. Duscher of Pierz, who was
convicted of assault in the third
degree last week in district
court, was brought up for sentence before Judge Nye Tuesday morning- and given a 60-day
sentence in the county jail and
directed to pay all costs of the
prosecution. He was not given
the option of a fine.
Duscher and tv/o Lepinski
brothers got into trouble last
August over the payment of
fare to Duscher for hauling the
two from Little Palls to Pierz.
In the mix-up which followed
one of the brothers was cut and
Duscher was arrested and indicted by the grand jury. His
trial did not take place until
the present term of court.

Has One-Eighth Interest
Another deed was filed for
record at the register of deeds
office Tuesday, which is of much
local interest- On March 1, Or-
rin Kipp of St. Paul sold and
transferred 1,700 acres of land
in this county to four other St.
Paul gentlemen, among whom
was one Prank H. Murray. The
deed filed for record Tuesday
was a quitclaim and covers the
same land, transferring an undivided one-eighth interest in
the property to Joseph J. Hennen, who is quite well known to
Little Palls people. The land
all lies in the towns of Clough,
Darling, Rail Prairie and Scandia. Valley.—Transcript.

The Pierz Dramatic Club
which was organized this winter had a meeting Saturday
evening and decided to stage
the play, "The Iron Hand"
some time after Easter.
Mrs. H. P. Spencer came
from Alb in v. Tuesday, and
returned Wed nesday.
H. A. Hohensee of Albany
came up Tuesday, to tike
charge of Soo Station. Geo.
A. King whom Mr. Hohensee
relieved, left Wednesday for
the twin cities.

Joseph H. Sand who had been
employed by P. A. Hartman the
past year or more, left Wednesday afternoon with his family
and household goods for.Gull
Lake, Canada, where he will
make his future home. Joseph
. a trip thru the Gull Lake
country last fail. He liked it
so well that he decided to take
a borne stead. His brother Charles went with him, who too,
may take a goverment claim.
The country there is quite thickly settled, and, though the
neighborhood in which Joseph
will live is about twenty miles
from the nearest railroad station, there will be a branch
built this spring, which will
come within seven miles of his
claim. There were forty two
catholic families there last fall
who had then decided to build a
church within a year. Joseph
will not be lonesome for the
want of Pierz neighbors. He
will find there Herman Wilkes, I
Leonard Jager Michael Eckel
and perhaps a few more.

Theodore Hesch of Buckman
and Frank Zesch of Bowlus
returned a few days ago from
Long* Lake where thev had
been fishing for two weeks.
They made a ;.;ood catch and
brought home many fish.
Thev said Theodore Hesch
was the luckiest, lie caught a
mermaid.

St. Joseph's day last Sunday
was observed as it is every
year, by the St. Joseph's Congregation, in honor of its Patron Saint. The St. Joseph's
society and the Catholic Order
of Foresters attended High
.Mass in Corpere and received
Holy Communion. Three outside priests assisted Father
Stiegler in hearing Confession
.of over two hundred and forty
persons. Th'* St. Joseph society held a special meeting after
Vespers for the purpose of revising its constitution and by
laws.

By Reports of Fires Everywhere Around Here
Meadows everywhere in this
neighborhood are on tire. Saturday great clouds of Bmoke ruse
to our west, which are reported
to have come from the meadows to the west and south of
Math, and Mike Thommes' places in Agram. At this writing
■smoke rises a little further
south and is probably in the
meadows to the west of Hubert
Bares' place. The north wind
Tuesday and Wed nesday brought
down dense clouds of smoke,
J. B. Krautkra mer of Jordan, who sells Empire Cream
separators and gasoline engines was here Monday.
Mrs. Herman Henfehl who
had been down with rheumatism for six weeks, came up
town Tuesdav.

the Opera house Sunday evening to witness the Passion
Plav. The pictures were not
as plain as thev might have
been and Mr. Faust regrets
to admit that the firm from
which he bought the films
misrepresented the goods.
The films showed that they
were pretty well worn.

—Engineer and Men in Baggage Car Seriously Injured
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jal-
mer of Casseltor, N. Dak.,
are here visiting with Mrs.
-aimer's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Eisel of Granite.
Mr. Jalmer, a fireman on the
Great Northeren was in a
wreck a few weeks ago in
which he sustained a broken
shoulder frwm the effects of
which he is still unable to
work. His engineer had a
leg broken and two men in
the baggage car were seriously iujnred.
