Fishing* is Not
Forbidden Now
By order of the Minnesota
Public Safety Commission, upon the recommendation of Hon.
Carlos Avery, executive agent
of the state tish and game commission, Mille Lacs Lake has
been opened for commercial fishing during the period of the
war. Fishing must be,, carried
on according to regulations
made by the safety commission
covering all bodies of water in
the state.
Chas. E. Lucas of Wahkon
has been appointed by the state
to act as buyer for the entire
Mille Lacs lake country and the
state will buy all the marketable tish offered for sale. No
one else is permitted to buy lish
from a fisherman and no fisherman has a right to sell to anyone else. The state +'urnishes
tbe market, fixes both wholesale and retail -prices, employs
the buyer. One person in each
community may be permitted to
sell fish at retail, but he mnst
buy all his tish from Mr. Lucas,
and must sell them at prices
fixed by-the state, he being allowed what is deemed a reasonable profit to pay the expenses
of handling.
Under date of Dec. 14, Commissioner Avery authorizes Mr.
Lucas to pay the following
prices;
Pickerel, not speared, per lb. 5c
Speared pickeral, per lb 4c
Perch, per lb 6c
Pike, per lb 6c
Tullibees, per lb 4c
Pike must not be speared, but
may be caught in anv other
way. All other varieties may
be taken by hook and line, net
or spear. Mr. Lucas will gladly explain conidtions and requirements to any who are interested.
Some five or six years ago
the lake was closed to commercial fishing because it had been
"re-stocked" with some thousands of pike fry. All efforts
to secure the abrogation of the
unjust rule have until now proved unavailing. When the move
to supply fish to the people of
the state at a reasonable figure
was made by the safety commission, Mr. Lucas and other Wahkon gentlemen took up the matter with the state officials, with
the view of having Mille Lacs
designated as one of the bodies
of water to come under the new
order. Mr. Avery, the excecu-
tive agent, made Wahkon and
other points an official visit and
later called Mr. Lucas to St.
Paul for further conference
upon the matter. Tbe result
was tbat the desired order was
given and Mr. Lucas was appointed buyer, and he will equip
himself for that purpose.

There has been considerable
trouble caused the draft board
of late by registrants who have
filled out their questionnaire
and .after sending them in have,
gone to the draft board to have
them look up their questionnaires again, thinking tbey had
made a mistake. This causes
considerable trouble and will
not be tolerated any longer as
in some cases the filled out
j sheets have been tiled away and
it takes considerable time to locate them.

Flour Now of
Single Grade
Flour manufacturers as well as
dealers in flour are in receipt of
an order from the government
headquarters at Washington, D.
C,-stating that only a single
giade of flour may be used and
sold after the present supply is
used up.
The ruling of the government
states that the flour technically
known as "Straight flour of 100
per cent patent" can be made
in tbe future which means that
many of the higher grades of
flour made by tbe millers are
forbidden to be manufactured
when the new order goes into
effect. The order is another
step in "Hooverizing" by the
government in realization of
tbe fact that "food will win tbe
war."

Dr. J. G. Millspaugh is in receipt of a letter frorn Rev. Fr.
Seliskar of St. Paul in which
tbe writer states that he is confined to bis bed from illness ancl
will be unable to till speaking
dates for-the present. Fr. Seliskar was to have delivered two
addresses in Morrison county.
Unless tbe practice of opening envelopes containing questionnaires by others than tbose
to whom addressed is stopped
several people in Morrison
county will find a charge of
tampering with TJ. S. mail placed against them. B. A. Kling
of tbe local draft board states
that several envelopes have
come back to the board which
had been opened by people who
had no authority to do so. This
is a serious offense and if charges are made severe sentences
may result.
The board has been mailing
out tbe questionnaires to tbe
drafted men and in many
cases
not
the person addressed was
at the address given by tbe records of tbe draft board. The
questionnaires, or many of
them, have come back to the
board after tbe envelopes had
been torn open. Aside from the
addressee no person has a right
to open a sealed envelope which
is going through the mails and
unless the practice is stopped
the matter will te turned over
to tbe federal authorities.

Fishing* is Not Forbidden Now By order of the Minnesota Public Safety Commission, upon the recommendation of Hon. Carlos Avery, executive agent of the state tish and game commission, Mille Lacs Lake has been opened for commercial fishing during the period of the war. Fishing must be,, carried on according to regulations made by the safety commission covering all bodies of water in the state. Chas. E. Lucas of Wahkon has been appointed by the state to act as buyer for the entire Mille Lacs lake country and the state will buy all the marketable tish offered for sale. No one else is permitted to buy lish from a fisherman and no fisherman has a right to sell to anyone else. The state +'urnishes tbe market, fixes both wholesale and retail -prices, employs the buyer. One person in each community may be permitted to sell fish at retail, but he mnst buy all his tish from Mr. Lucas, and must sell them at prices fixed by-the state, he being allowed what is deemed a reasonable profit to pay the expenses of handling. Under date of Dec. 14, Commissioner Avery authorizes Mr. Lucas to pay the following prices; Pickerel, not speared, per lb. 5c Speared pickeral, per lb 4c Perch, per lb 6c Pike, per lb 6c Tullibees, per lb 4c Pike must not be speared, but may be caught in anv other way. All other varieties may be taken by hook and line, net or spear. Mr. Lucas will gladly explain conidtions and requirements to any who are interested. Some five or six years ago the lake was closed to commercial fishing because it had been "re-stocked" with some thousands of pike fry. All efforts to secure the abrogation of the unjust rule have until now proved unavailing. When the move to supply fish to the people of the state at a reasonable figure was made by the safety commission, Mr. Lucas and other Wahkon gentlemen took up the matter with the state officials, with the view of having Mille Lacs designated as one of the bodies of water to come under the new order. Mr. Avery, the excecu- tive agent, made Wahkon and other points an official visit and later called Mr. Lucas to St. Paul for further conference upon the matter. Tbe result was tbat the desired order was given and Mr. Lucas was appointed buyer, and he will equip himself for that purpose.
