ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1947

N0etrcrowndCeIJ-C Year Book To Be Titled RA-JU-CO
Red hearts, white hearts, crepe
[paper and streamers gave the J. C.
formal dance its gala Valentine
theme as a large crowd danced to
the music of "Cec" Turner Saturday evening, February 15, at the
' Masonic Temple. Entering under
i a gaily decorated trellis of the traditional red and white theme, the
I students, faculty and alumni celebrated the long awaited Winter
! Formal. The skillfully decorated
hall was due to the work of Phyllis
; Hendricks and her committee con-
I sisting of Vernon Silker, Bill
Sandberg, Nanette DeMille, Mary
j Jo Gerlicher, Goldie Dugstad, Jack
Prill and Glenn Sower. Between
dances, heart cookies and red punch
| were served in adjoining candle-
I lit room where couples sat at tables
cleverly decorated by Dot Dickson,
[ Mary Agnew and Frankie Markell.
Nancy Anderson and her cora-
! mittee of Liz McConnell, Dot
Dickson and Ralph Books, ably
took care of the publicity for the
dance which resulted in its overwhelming success. The dance
which began at 9 P. M. drew to a
reluctant close at 1 A. M.
Fred Arab and his recent bride request their favorite song from Cec T

WEATHER UPSETS
SLEIGH-RIDE
"The weather outside was frightful," But the dance was so delightful.
J. C. students danced from nine
until one Friday night, February 7,
in the North Gym. Music was
excellently provided by the newly
organized Merry-go-round orchestra. The Booster Club sponsored
this party.
The coffee and chocolate cake
were delicious. Frequent trips were
made to the lunch table which was
tended by "ever loyal to the lunch
committee" Mary Elton.
Red and white streamers draped the sides of the gym and the
background for the band. Giant
snowflakes against a bright red
background and snowmen gave the
North Gym a wintry appearance.
Snow and bitter cold put in their
appearance outside causing the anticipated sleigh ride to be cancelled. *
Gamma Rho Plans
Banquet For 27th
The" Gamma Rho banquet,
originally slated for the 25th of
February, is to be held Thursday,
February 27th, at the Hubble
House in Mantorville. Highlights
of the evening will include a speech
by Mr. Farrington, father of Jerry
Farrington who was news editor
of the Echo last year, and the initiation of all the new members.
This year Gammo Rho is also including members of the annual
staff. Liz McConnell is in charge
of the banquet which is one of the
big events of the year. If last year's
Gammo Rho initiation is any standard, this year's initiation should
be anything but dull.
mittee meetings which were held
two or three days in advance of
the convention. He is a member
of the Board of Directors, and is
also a member of the Finance Committee. In 1944 Mr. Goddard was
president of the American Association of Junior Colleges. The Dean
is scheduled to preside over the
Legislation Board meeting.
Some outstanding speaker will
be introduced at the general assembly meeting.
The Dean is planning to travel
by way of Chicago in order that
he may stop there to attend to
some business about getting more
teachers.
FIELD WINS
FREE ANNUAL
All the publicity connected with
the naming of the annual netted a
batch of prospective names that the
judging committee, meeting Thursday, February 6th, found difficult
to decide upon. After some debate, the judges, composed of the
year book section heads, narrowed
the ballots down to three: Wesley
Fuch's title "Jackets," Wayne
Field's suggestion "Ra - Ju - Co",
and Milton Lentz's idea for not
having a name at all, but to simply inscribe the cover, R. J. C.
After more discussion, the committee finally obtained a majority vote
in favor of "Ra-Ju-Co," on the
grounds that it was the most original and still tied up with R.J.C.
If you haven't figured out the exact
meaning of the title, just repeat the
first sylables of each word in Rochester Junior College and you have
it. Wayne will, of course, receive
the free annual. Congratulations!
The committee decided that
Genoa Knight's idea for the cover
also rated a free year book, but no
secrets are to be divulged concerning that.
