Awards Given
At Banquet
During the annual banquet, held
Thursday, May 22nd, many of
the Junior College awards were
presented to students. Miss Hillestad presented the first "Golden
R" award to Marcy McGlothlin.
Marcy, a med-sec student, served
as Student Council president this
year, was a meber of Phi-Theta-
Kappa, and became a member of
Gamma Rho through her work on
the annual.
The second "Golden R" award
was presented to Martha Anderson
by Miss Barthelemy. Martha was
president of Phi-Theta-Kappa, and
the active co-chairman of the social committee.
The American Legion award
was presented to Jim Wendorf by
; Mr. J. W. Feller. Jim worked in
the Zoology lab for Miss Endicott
this year, played on the Yellowjackets' football team, and was a
member of the Varsity Club.
Wayne Field received the coveted "Booster Cup" award which
was presented to him by Miss
Matt. One of the most active
students in Junior College, Wayne
was president of the sophomore
class, a member of Student Council, business manager of both the
"Echo" and the annual, and was
a member of the chorus.
The final presentation was that
of the gavel which Marcy McGlothlin, this year's Student Council president, handed over to Warren Wiese who will fill her position next year.

J. C. GRADUATES RECEIVE DIPLOMAS
TWO TEACHERS
RESIGN
Two Junior College faculty
members have resigned this year.
Mr. Schneider, the chemistry instructor, has received a position as
a research assistant in Dr. Power's
laboratory at the Mayo Clinic. •
Mr. Brown, who taught history
this year, is going to work for his
Ph.D. in history at the University
of Minnesota. He will be replaced next year by Mr. Bateman.
On Monday afternoon,
June 2nd, a farewell gathering of the faculty was held
in the school library at 4:00
for Mr. Brown, Mr. Schneider and Miss Dummer who
will not be with us_ next
year.
Curricula To
Be Expanded
INITIATES
INDUCTED
INTO SOCIETY
On Sunday afternoon, May
25th, eight Rajester members were
inducted into Delta Psi Omega,
the national honorary society- for
junior colleges. The initiation
ceremony was held at the Merry-
Go-Round.
Requirements for the society
are excellent acting in an important
role in a three-act play, or important parts in two or more one-act
Plays.
Those students who became
members include Johnmiles Johnson, Aline Jennings, Robert Wolter, James Williams, Patricia Miles,

NEW FACULTY
With the thought of another
year of school ahead and a new
rush of students, Dean Goddard
has been busy recruiting some new
instructors. In the chemistry department will be Wagoner G. Collins. Mr. Collins received his
Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern University and will receive his
Master's Degree in August also
from Northwestern. At the present time, he is teaching parttime at
the Evanston Collegiate Institute.
Miss Ethel Evans will supplement the Commercial department.
She received both her B. A. and
M. A. from the University of Minnesota. At present she is teaching
commercial subjects at Excelsior High School.
i In the English department Wallace D. Maxie will be on hand.
He received his B. A. from the
State Teachers- College of North
Dakota and will receive his M. A.
from the University of Minnesota
in August. Now he is teaching
English in the University of Minnesota extension service. Both Mr.
Maxie and Mr. Collins have been
in the service.
I am sure all of you will be
sorry to hear that Miss Arlene
Dummer is leaving us the 13th of
June. Mrs. Rebecca Adams will
be on duty June 2. She is a graduate of the two-year secretarial
training course given in Massachusetts.
Another new teacher was signed recently to replace Mr. Brown

Several new courses are to be of
fered at Rochester Junior College
next year. Anthropolgy, the study
of prehistoric culture, will be
taught by the new history teacher,
Mr. Bateman.
A new two-year course in Medical Technology will be started next
year. In the freshman year the
student will be required to take
chemistry, zoology, and English,
plus electives. The summer following the first year, the student
will be given opportunity to work
in medical laboratories. The subjects required for sophomores will
be anatomy, bacteriology, and
physics, plus electives.
There is also going to be an extension of the course in General
Business for those who are not going on to school. It will be more
practical and less "theoretical, and
wiil include English, Accounting,
Business Law, Office and Business
Management, and Economics.
Finally, there will be a one-year
course in Business Fundamentals
for veterans who wish to obtain
the essentials of business in the
shortest time possible. Subjects
included will be English, Typing,
Commerce Math, Business Machines, Bookkeeping for Small
Business, Letter Writing, and Busi
ness Problems.

began at 8:00 was held in the Central High School auditorium. Dr.
Maurice Thomas, superintendent
of schools, presided and Mr. Eugene Cutshall presented the diplomas.. The guest speaker was Dr.
George P. Conger, chairman of the
department of philosophy at the
University of Minnesota, who
spoke on "A Renascent Civilization."
After the exercises, a reception
was held in Coffman Hall. Servers were Isabelle Schulz, Joan
Heimstra, Carolita Tingley, Betty
Smith, and Mary Kepler,
Faculty Plans
Workshop
This summer, several of the
faculty members will begin the
summer workshop. This can, perhaps, be best explained in terms
of what they are to do. The object is to make a study of the J. C.
curricula with the object of revising It. They will compile a
bibliography of books and articles
written on the new trends in education. The most important of
these will be abstracted, mimeographed, and presented to the faculty next fall. It is hoped that the
summer after this' the curricula re-
