Four Students Honored at Annual Spring Banquet
In a setting of brightly colored tulips and friendly candlelight the students of Rochester Junior College met for the annual
spring banquet.
Bob Welte, master of ceremonies, called the guests to their
respective seats, and then there immediately followed an impressive and beautiful candle-lighting service. Girls participating in
this solemun event were: Vir-|"
ginia Chaffee, Donna Whitney,
Dede Peters, Dot Dickson, Barbara Bach, and Frankie Markell.
Helen Doyle then sang two
songs accompanied by Johnmiles
Johnson.
A menu of tomato cocktails,
ham, mashed potatoes, corn, relish plates, coffee or milk, and
ice cream with fresh strawberries was served cafeteria style.
Dr. Rynearson, who was
guest speaker of the evening,
talked on the future of choosing a vocation which greatly interested the students. Dean
Goddard followed on the program with a talk entitled "Reflections," in which he stressed
the eternal values of education.
The Golden R awards were
presented by Miss Matt and Mr.
Paul to Mary Kepler and Warren Wiese respectively. Mr.
Feller gave the Legion award to
Harry Sasse, followed by Mr,
Singley who bestowed upon Bill
Sandberg the Booster Cup.
The program was climaxed' by the passing-of-
the-gavel from Warren

The Varsity Club picnic held
in conjunction with the IRC,
Gamma Rho and Phi Theta the
20th of May was a great success. White Water State Park
was the location and plenty of

The main feature of the Annual Spring Banquet on Tuesday, May 11 was the presentation of the four awards which
are the highest honors a J. C-
student can attain. Students'

banquet.

On the evening of June 3rd, Rochester Junior College will
hold its Commencement Exercises in the Central Auditorium.
The program will begin at 8:15 p.m. with the processional of
students and faculty members in academic cap and gown. The
invocation will be given by one of our own students, Adjutant
Edward Deratany, and follow-
1 ing this the combined Junior
College-High School orchestra
will play a selection.
The guest speaker of the
evening is to be Mr. Robert J. Blakely, editorial
writer of the Des Moines
"Register and Tribune,"
whose topic will be "Education and Social Change."
Mr. Blakely is a graduate
of the University of Iowa
and of Harvard, is a journalist, educator, and lecturer, and has contributed
articles to many of the
leading national publications. He is widely versed
in both domestic and international events.
