Queen McCue
Crowned at
Assembly
Homecoming festivities got under
way this morning with the coronation of the queen and the presentation of the football team.
As the students were ushered to
their seats the band played the
new school song. The lights were
dimmed, the drums rolled into a
crescendo, and our queen, her two
attendants, and the crown bearer
entered from the rear of the auditorium. The student body rose in
respect to the queen as she took
her place on the throne in the center of the stage.
The narrator, Harvey Hed-
strum, presented the individual
members of the team to the
queen and they took their
places on the stage.
After a few appropriate remarks
R. J. C.'s well-known "boy from
Missouri," Mr. Singley, placed the
jeweled crown on the queen's
head, Following the custom of
centuries ago when the fair queen
gave a token of honor and glory
to her knight who was to engage
in a joust, our queen presented the
game captain of the Yellowjackets
with a favor, which he accepted
graciously. The cheerleaders then
led the student body in a rousing
cheer for the queen, her attendants, and the team.

New Victory Songs
Written at Last!
On September 30 the Student
Council set up a committee to produce a new song. This action was
the result of a meeting on school
spirit. The council decided that
although spirit was good this year,
it needed improvement. Among
other things they decided on a new
school song.
Richard Miles, chairman, Howard Sandum, and Bob Ludden were
nominated as a. committee. They
considered the possibilities and decided on Michigan University's
song. These are the words to go
with it:
THE YELLOW JACKET
VICTORY SONG
Fight on,- Oh! Yellowjackets!
Win for us, Yellowjackets!
Er'ng back a victory for old R. J. C.l
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Shout! Let us hear the cheer
That tells us when victory's near,
O, hail to the Yellowjackets!
Win the victory!
The band is now rehearsing the
song, and they hope to have it
ready by Homecoming.

HENRY CHARLES AND
ORCHESTRA SIGNED TO
FURNISH DANCING MUSIC
Climaxing the 1948 Homecoming
festivities of R. J. C. will be the
dance tonight in the North Gym of
the Coffman Building immediately
following the Emmettsberg-Yellow-
jacket gridiron tussle.
THIS ISSUE
IN HONOR OF
HOMECOMING QUEEN
Joan McCue
Henry Charles and his popular
eleven-piece orchestra will be featured at the gala event. Four vocalists, who are also members of
the instrumental group, will be
heard throughout the evening singing some of today's hit tunes. This
orchestra has recently been playing in northern Iowa and southern
Minnesota in well-known ball rooms
such as the Terp in Austin and the
Prom in St. Paul. The price for admission has been set at $1.50 per
couple and at $Tfor stags.
Elaborate decorations displaying
the school colors, blue and gold,
will serve as the attractive background for the dancers. Something unusual has been planned in
the way of refreshments. The J. C.
color scheme has also been carried out in the preparation of the
food, which, incidentally, will be
served free of charge to everyone
in attendance.

EDEE LARSON, CAROL
SCHMIDT TO SERVE
AS ATTENDANTS
After a hectic contest which included two final elections, Joan McCue was elected to reign as Homecoming Queen over the annual
festivities today.
Queen Joan and her attendants,
Edee Larson and Carol Schmidt,
were selected from a field of six
candidates in the secondary elections held Tuesday and Wednesday, October 12 and 13. The
other candidates were: Lugene Trisler, Dede Peters, and Donna
Whitney.
The Queen, a sophomore S. L.
A. student, was crowned during the
this Homecoming assembly at 11:00
this morning. She will reign during the Homecoming game with
Emmetsburg Junior College at 8:00
this evening, and at the dance in
the North gym which follows.
This year's election race was one
of the closest in the history of Rochester Junior College. (Robert
Hentges, Student Council President,
was very disappointed because of
the fact that he did not poll enough
votes to be considered a candidate.) Tuesday's election ended
in a tie between two of the candidates, which made another election
on Wednesday necessary.
The JAYSEE ECHO, together with
the rest of the student body, faculty, and alumni, offers its congratulations and compliments to Miss
Joan McCue, Homecoming Queen
of 1948!
