AJUCO Debut
lanned for
ward Banquet
The Rajuco is almost here! The
juco staff had planned their work
that they could present the year-
ok to the students May eighteenth
ter the Student Council Banquet.
e printers are doing their best to
>et the deadline, and Editor Lu-
ne Trisler reports that we will
|ve our yearbook on May 18.
Students Not Charged
The debut of the Rajuco will
ark innovations. The Rajuco art-
Joanne Cutshall and Donna
lie, have created a cover for the
nual that has won the acclaim
the Buckbee-Mears Company—
e engravers. The inside of the
10k will tell the tale of RJC in a
inner different from the annuals
previous years—it is highly in-
•mal. In addition, the yearbook
being paid for out of the Activ-'
Fund—not taken from the $5
eakage fee! Therefore, the ad- j
mt of the 1949 Rajuco should be
i eventful one.
The Gamma Rho will meet soon
r the purpose of selecting the
cleus of the 1950 Rajuco staff.
this way the editor and his as-
stants may have a longer period
which to formulate their ideas
id their schedule. Next year the
aff will be supplemented by vol-
iteers from the Freshman and
Dphomore classes.

H-Day—Honor Day—is getting closer and closer. The date to re-

lore classes of Rochester Junior College will dine at the annual Stu-
ient Council banquet and award to four outstanding members of the
tudent body JC's highest honors: the Booster Cup, the two Golden R's,
md the American Legion award. The dinner will get under way at

held Tuesday evening. The theme of the formal dancing party, "Candy Ball," is apparent in the
striped candy sticks and cellophane kisses hanging from the ceiling.

The Student Council has engag-
id Dr. D. C. Balfour, President
meritus of the Mayo Foundation,
is guest speaker. Dr. Balfour plans
o illustrate his talk with the aid
if a slide projector.
Sandberg to Emcee
Sophomore class president Neil
iandberg will serve as master of
ceremonies for the occasion. In
eturn for his No. 1 Spot on the
peaker's table, Sandberg will in-
roduce Dr. Balfour and set the
jne 366 tage for the four award presenta-
ions.
The Booster Cup is awarded to
the student elected by the student
body as the outstanding booster of
JC activities. The results of the
1949 election, held in mid-March,
have been kept strictly secret. Last
year Bill Sandberg had his name
engraved on the traditional silver
receptacle.
The Golden R award is described in the RJC catalog as follows:
"There may be awarded
each year ... a gold "R" to
the man and woman in Rochester Junior College, who
have, in the judgment of the
faculty, rendered praiseworthy
service to the Junior College

CONGRATS GO TO
SOCIAL COMMITTEE
FOR BIG SUCCESS
Candy Ball . . . Valencia Ballroom . . . Tuesday evening, May
0th .. . Henry Burton's orchestra
playing until 1:00 in the morning
. . . No school the next day. . . .
Those are a few of the facts
ingering in the minds of the JC
students who attended the Social
Committee's gay dancing party last
Tuesday, the Annual Spring Prom.
Planners Praised
The members of the committee
outdid themselves' to provide the
perfect atmosphere for the biggest
social event of the year. Tearing
themselves reluctantly away from
their pre-exam studies, they devoted most of Tuesday afternoon to
decorating the Valencia Ballroom
in the Candy Ball motif.
Red and white striped candy
sticks alternated with cellophane
candy kisses along the bandstand,
and a big centerpiece of candy-
striped streamers hung from the
ceiling. Potted flowers set along
the bandstand were provided by
the Fiksdal Flower Shop.
Music Contributes
Another of the more pleasing
aspects of the prom was the orchestra. Henry Burton's men played their music sweet and dreamy,
and it was a rare number indeed
when the floor was not well populated with dancing couples.
Bingham Elected
To Council Post
At a recent election for next
year's Student Council President
George Bingham received an over;
whelming majority of Junior College students' votes. The council
deemed a second election unnecessary because of the wide margin
received by Bingham in the first
election.
Most Important Office
Bob Hentges, this year's president, pointed out that the student
council president has several duties: he must keep the college extra-curricular activities moving, arrange for the elections of class officers in the fall, supervise social
functions, and attend student-fac-.
ulty council meetings. The term of
the office is one year.
