Theme of Anniversary Rajuco
By JIM BROUGH
The 35th Anniversary, 1950-51 Rajuco promises to be one of the
finest yearbooks the Rochester Junior College has published. With
more funds and certainly more enthusiasm on the part of the students
than ever before, the Rajuco will be a bigger and better annual.
The theme of this year's annual which carries along the Anniversary spirit is "the old and the new." In carrying out this theme,
the Rajuco staff is planning and working on such ideas as artwork
and cartoons picturing school life
of 35 years ago as compared to
today, colored division pages
contrasting many of the phases
of our education of "then" and
now, and perhaps a short summarized history of fhe Junior College and its activities since its
founding in 1915.
â– v
When your RAJUCO is
completed and delivered to
you at the Spring banquet,
you will be able to see the
tremendous difference between it and any of the
yearbooks of the past immediately. At first glance you will
notice the beautiful, stiff,
bound cover of the book, a
cover heavier and more attractive than in the past, and
as you page through the contents of the book you will
find a complete pictorial
story of this year's school and
activities.
This yearbook will be complete
and thus requires much time and
effort on the part of the staff.
But these people don't seem to
mind the work, and they will be
very proud of the annual when
it is completed. They only hope
that every student who receives
this yearbook will be just as
proud of it, because it is your
1950-51 Rajuco.
Students Leave J. C.
For Active Duty
The Korean War, though
taking place far away from
Minnesota, is showing its effect in R. J. C. Several J. C.
students have recently enlisted or returned to one of the
armed services. Glenn Patterson, Jerry Moran, and Bob
Ingalls all joined the air
force. Soon to be wearing
the Navy blue are Steve Lambourne, Dick Giese, Kit Ell-
winger, and Ed Black. Bob
Sather has already donned
his sea-going uniform.
A marine reserve who has been
called back into active duty is
Thomas Hanscom. Arlen Johnson, now stationed at Fort Lewis,
Washington, has left to become
an active part of the army once
again. Mel Stewart has also
been called back into the Marines.
Colorful Christmas Formal
To Be Held December 19
While bells tinkle merrily in the chill December air, and red and
green Christmas lights slyly blink as if in tune with the bells, as gay
holiday tunes sift through the air and brightly decorated stores entice
Christmas shoppers, J. C. is also aware of the coming festivities. Yes,
we are eagerly awaiting our wonderful winter formal, which brings
back memories of rustling silk skirts and sweet fragrances of roses
and gardenias.
Plans for the dance are being made by the members of
the newly elected social committee, consisting of Gerry Kennedy, Maxine Wedam, Jack Wenstrup, Dick Husband, Mary
Sharkey, Al Tupper, Lois Peterson, with Gloria Frutiger as
chairman. They are busily working to make this one of the
best formals ever. Plans are moving rapidly, so boys, you
had better see your special girl soon and ask her to please
be your date on Tuesday, December 19 for the Christmas
formal. You girls had better put on your prettiest smiles,
find those swishing formals and be all ready to say, "Tuesday, December 19? Oh, I'd love to!"
While all of you are making and accepting these dates, your social committee will be arduously at work. The puffs and bows of
ribbon and crepe paper, the

Goddard Speaks
At Lion Meet
Wednesday, November 22,
Dean Goddard spoke to the
members of the Lions Club at
the Carlton Hotel. His theme
was the Junior College movement, and he discussed the
development of Roches-
ter Junior College into a community college.
Dr. Jesse Bogue, executive secretary of "The American Association of Junior Colleges," who
spoke at the junior college luncheon, during the M. E. A. meeting
in Minneapolis on adult education
in the junior college reports as
follows on his impressions here.
"On Saturday morning, we journeyed to Rochester in company
with Dean and Mrs. Roy W. Goddard of the Rochester Junior College and were house guests in
their lovely home for the weekend. They are celebrating their
35th anniversary at the junior
college. Education Week in the
city is featuring the 35th anniversary of the junior college and
the 25th for Dean Goddard.
The Rochester Post-Bulletin
for Saturday, November 4,
carried a special feature article covering two-thirds of a
page on these events. Two
charts showed the growth of
the day and evening divisions. The day school began
in 1915 with about 20 students and climbed to 340;
the evening college began in
1943 with about 150 students
and soared to more than 2,-
400 by 1949. The college is
crowded and needs much
more space. Ingenious use
has been made of every
available inch of trre floor
Christmas tree and all the decorations are being taken care of by
a committee headed by Dick Husband and Gerry Kennedy. Mary
Sharkey is responsbile for getting
the ticket sale contest rolling, and
for all publicity. The prizes for
the winners of this ticket selling
contest are really worthwhile, and
the committee members urge you
to start selling tickets to J. C.
Alumni and others right away.
Distribution for sale of tickets, and
supervision for the cleanup will
be taken care of by Jack Wenstrup and Max Wedam, while Al
Tupper is the J. C. scout for chap-
erones. Lois Peterson and Gloria
Frutiger are hiring a band, renting the Valencia and writing invitations fo our faculty members.
Another event to look forward
to is the after-game dance tonight. The top bands in the country will be playing your favorite
tunes, and cokes and candy bars
will also be sold.
These are the things for Jay-
ceers to look forward to this
month, so be sure you're there!
The social committee will be looking for you everyone of you,
you and you, and you!
and wall space.
The college features not only
the Evening Community Division,
but also an excellent general salary scale for teachers, one of the
best pre-registration orientation
programs, 12 months employment
of teachers.
