Metide Program
IThe Rajesters presented the college Christmas Assembly Program
fsday, December 14, at 10 a.m. The opening portrayed a dra-
itic club meeting. As the curtain rose, the audience saw a drama-
Pion of "Jingle Bells," with Jack Wenstrup as the man, Gloria
er os Fannie Bright, Bob Smith as the horse, and Lois Peterson
Ihe "drifted snowbank."
[The nay atmosphere of Christmas continued with the arrival of
I McGhee, more Rajesters, and the Girls' Sextet, who sang "Winter
fderland." Then the regular meeting of the Drama Club was
jlated on stage. Tom Moran, president, asked for suggestions from
Broup for the Christmas Program. Gface Meinen and Trudy Rdn-
|urg sang "Stifle Nacht" in German and the number was approv-
' the program.
A short Christmas Story, "The Gift of The Magi," was
suggested as a possibility for the program. As a'synopsis
the beautiful O. Henry
was being told, the
jlits faded out, only to
jme on again with Mary
H«y, Tom Moran and
p Wenstrup enacting this
lart-warmirfg drama.
Greta Nelson gave a scriptural
reading which set the scene for
the play.
Then came the one act
play, "The Other One," with

Student Carollers
Entertain Dec, 11
A group of students from
R. J. C. went caroling Sunday
night, December 17. They met
at the Merry-Go-Round at six
o'clock and left from there. After singing until they were hoarse,
they returned to t.he Merry-Go-
Round to enjoy hot chocolate and
Christmas cookies.
i
Dixie Kirkwood and Dave Holmberg thought Christmas caroling
would be fun. They tacked a
sign on the bulletin board and
had everyone sign who was interested. Many students gave
their support fo this activity.
Johnny Roberts Plays
At Holiday Formal
Soft lights glowed, sweet music floated through the air, and
bright formals added color and gayety to the scene of the annual
Rochester Junior College Christmas Formal. The dance was one of
two formal occasions held during the J. C. school year, the other one
coming in the spring.
The place for all this festivity was the Valencia Ballroom, the time, Tuesday night, December 19. The Social
Committee, consisting of Gloria Frutiger, chairman; Maxine
Wedam, Jerry Kennedy, Jack Wenstrup, Al Tupper, Lois
Peterson, Dick Husband, and Mary Sharkey, with their faculty adviser, Mrs. Bock, planned the dance and all the trimmings.
Lois Peterson and Gloria Frutiger contacted Johnny Roberts' Orchestra from Winona, formerly of Plainview, who furnished the sweet
music from 9 till 1 o'clock. They also wrote the invitations which
were sent to each faculty member.
The decoration committee heads were Gerry Kennedy and Dick
Husband. Helping them were Roy Talmo, Robert Ripple, Correne Gron-
vold, Nancy Bumgarner, James Schinke, Noel Gray, Gloria Frutiger,
Lois Peterson, Joan Books, JoAnn
Students Elected to
Phi Theta Kappa
Vale, and Nancy Cullen. Together they constructed a beautiful false ceiling of red, green,
and white crepe paper. Two
Christmas trees added a feeling
that "Christmas is coming," as
did two 7-foot candy canes, one
on each side of the orchestra.
Between the canes the sign
"Merry Christmas" greeted the
prom-goers.
Maxine Wedam and Jack
Wenstrup had charge of the
advance ticket sale. Tickets
for couples were $1.25 or
$1.50 if purchased at the
door Tuesday night, and 75c
for stags. Mary Sharkey took
care of publicizing the event,
with Noel Gray making the
posters.
The 1950 Christmas Formal is
now another night to remember
for the JC students. The festive
decorations, the soft lights, and
the gay-colored formals and corsages all blended to create a
memorable scene for the many
couples attending th© dance.
Phi Theta Kappa, the National
Honorary Society for Junior Colleges, elected eleven new members on Thursday, December 7.
They are Jim Armstrong, Donald
Benson, Ruth Gross, Ardis Jordahl,
Roger Julin, Donald Mogen, Greta
Nelson, Lois Peterson, Cleon
Reemsnyder, Richard Witter, and
Harold Zeller. An initiation dinner will be held shortly after
Christmas vacation.
To be a member of Phi Theta
Kappa, a student must, while carrying fifteen hours, have twelve
hours in S. L. A. at the time of
entrance. If a student maintains
a "B" average in his spring quarter, he may not be elected until
ihe following year.
This organization is comparable
to Phi Beta Kappa of four year
colleges. Rochester Junior College's chapter is called Omicron.
