|To a stately organ processional played by Sharon Fountain, three
young ladies marched down the aisle of Central Auditorium.
Ihree were the Rochester Junior College Sno-Queen and her two
Idcints: Carol Orpen, queen, and Audrey Price and Carlene An-
|n, attendants,
he coronation, which took place on Monday, February 7, during
econd hour, officially opened the activities planned for the week-
celebration. The coronation followed the traditional pattern
the pomp and circumstance generally associated with queens.
Jueen Carol, an RJC freshman in the Secretarial Finishing course,
crowned by Mr. Charles Singley, chemistry professor. Carol was
pt RJC queen to wear the beautiful silver crown which was a
'the college from the sophomore class of 1954. The crown was
by Tom Erickson, a sophomore.
-arol and her attendants, Audrey and Carlene, were preceded
the aisle by a military guard, consisting of veterans of RJC.

Frosh Shows Colorful Mexico
At Annual Journalistic Banquet
The annual Gamma Rho honorary journalistic society banquet
was held the evening of January 27 at the Markay Dining Room. The
affair was attended by thirty-eight persons, including Gamma Rho
members, twenty-two initiates, and guests, Dean and Mrs. Charles E.
Hill, Miss Marie Matt, and Johng Lim.
A fine turkey dinner was served, followed by a program emceed
by Don Ryan.
Dean Hill began the program
with a short talk dealing with the
widely renowned quality of the
Echo. Next, Johng Lim answered
auestions about his native Korea
and related some very interesting
aiid often humorous personal experiences.
The Gamma Rho candidates,
still wearing the red Gamma Rho
characters which were painted on
their foreheads that morning, then
told of their informal initiation assignments. The various assignments included a card party in
Dayton's, a game of hopscotch in
Baker's, an art lecture in Weber
& Judd's, a three-piece "band
concert" in Bach's, a short term
in the city jail, and a number
of other fantastic activities.
The rest of the program included the showing of colored slides
taken by Harold Schmidt while
he attended the University of
Mexico, and the performing of
stunts forced upon several initiates. The event ended with the
formal initiation ceremony.

Marilyn Banholzer, Kathleen Beckley, Kay Brown, Ed Haack, Dick
Hamann, Pat Hamilton, Sharon

To Climax Sno-Week
Junior College students will
dance to the music of Ken Burk
ond his orchestra at RJC's annual winter forma! to be held at
the Kahler Sky Room on Saturday, February 12, from 9:00 P.M.
to 1:00 A.M.
Those on the committee planning the dance, decorations and
program are: Janice Honer, chairman, George Joyce, Pat Moe,
Mary Jo Devlin, Pat Fahy, Janet
Nelson, Mike Sugg and Bob Williams.
The theme of the dance is
''Snow Dream," and decorations
will be carried out in blue and
silver. To add variety to the evening, Danny Sandberg and Glenn
Amundsen will entertain the students during a short program.
Refreshments will be served by
the Kahler hostesses.
Dean Hill and his wife and Mr.
and Mrs. Bateman will chaperone
the dance. All taculty members
are invited to attend.

on the formal initiation committee; and Dave Waldemar, Le Roy
Christopherson, Karen Eichinger
and Naomi Kothenbeutel on the
informal initiation committee.
A good number of students
equipped with toboggans and
warm clothes enjoyed the tobogganing party last Tuesday evening. This, the second event of
Sno-Week, was held at the Rochester Country Club.
Thursday, February 10, a skating party at the Mayo Field rink
was attended by tha students.
Gangsters and "400"
All in Spring Play
Tryouts have been held for
"Mrs. McThing," a two act play
by Mary Chase, which will be
produced Monday, March 14, in
Central auditorium.
"Mrs. McThing" is a whimsical
comedy with an undertone of
caustic satire. At one extreme is
the problem mother who misuses
both money and authority. For
the opening and closing scenes
the setting is Larue Towers, the
home of Mrs. Howard V. Larue
III. On the other extreme is
Shantyland Pool Hall, presided
over by Poison Eddie Schellen-
bach and his gang.
Mrs. Larue will be portrayed
by Margaret Lee, and Tom Erickson will act the part of Howey,
her son. The Loomis sisters,
friends of Mrs. Larue, will be
played by Kathleen Beckley,
Mary Jo Devlin, and Pat Hamilton. Carol Myhre and Mary Jane
Brown will take the parts of the
two Larue maids.
The parts of the three gangsters, Poison Eddie Schellenbach,
Stinker and Dirty Joe McGinnis
will be portrayed by Dick Hamann, Bob Williams and George
Joyce. Lillian Von Osten will act
the part of Mrs. Schellenbach,
Fddie's mother. Playing the part
of Mrs. McThing, an ugly witch
in one scene and a beautiful
woman in another, is Charlotte
Blumers. Mimi, her daughter and
a friend of Howey, will be acted
by Kay Brown.
The waiter, the chef, and bodyguard, and the policemen will be
handled by David Kruger, Gerald
Olerud, Dick Jensen, Jim Lehnherr and Vic Batzel.
Mr. Paul and Mr. Walton chaperoned the toboggan party. All
arrangements were made by the
winter social committee under the
chairmanship of Janice Honer.
