Done," "Deep River," "Madame

Carol Myhre and Pat Roland, assisted by George Joyce, Bill
Barnes, Margo Fick, and Kay

On Thursday evening, May 5,
at the Chandelier room of Holland's Cafe, the Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, national
honor society for junior colleges,
held its annual initiation dinner.
New members initiated were
Sharon Hammond, Vasiliki Chouramanis, Virginia Lund, Arlene
Fenske, LeRoy Christopherson,
Dick Cutshall, Raymond Kranz,
David Wernecke, Lucille Nichols,
Geraldine Raymond, Robert Zeller, Francis Hunter, and LaVonne
Schwanke.
Neil Anderson, president of
the local chapter, welcomed the
members, initiates, guests Dean
and Mrs. Hill, and Miss Barthelemy, faculty advisor for the organization. He then introduced
Dean Hill who spoke on the
"Values and Responsibilities of
Scholarship."
An informal initiation in which
all initiates participated then followed. Each person was involved in skits which were to stress
the importance of academic skills
and scholarship, but which proved more humorous than intellectual. The formal initiation, conducted by the officers of the society, Neil Anderson, Naomi
Kothenbeutel, and Gerald Olerud, concluded the program. Initiates repeated the pledge of the
society and signed their names
in the official roster.
Old members present were
Neil Anderson, Naomi Kothenbeutel, Gerald Olerud, Russell
Billings, Karen Eichinger, and
Roger Rood. Victor Batzel, treasurer, and Beverly Berndt were
unable to attend.
To become a member of Phi
Theta Kappa, a student must be
taking fifteen credits, of which
twelve must be in SLA, and have
at least a "B" average.
