UN Delegates
Describe Trip
A student convocation featuring
the student delegates to the United Nations in New York was held
in Coffman Hali, November 10,
at 9:20 A.M., at which Miss Mary
Goette, faculty advisor, introduced the students. Delegates were
Sharon Hammond Maass and Jim
Ackerman of JC, Geraldine Whipple and Nancy Strifert of Rochester Senior High School, and
Kathy Reichert and Paul Priebe
of Lourdes.
Colored slides of exterior and
interior United Nations buildings
were shown to illustrate the panel
by Geraldine Whipple. Kathy
Reichert of Lourdes explained the
workings of the U. N. Economic
and Social Council and related
an interview with a representative
from Pakistan. Jim Ackerman described the U. N. Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural organization and what is being done to
help people throughout the
world. He also told of an interview he had with a man from
the Philippines-.

Many Guests
Visit College
On the evening of November
10th, at eight o'clock, the Junior College, at its annual open
house, was host to a large number of parents and guests. The
program started in Coffman Hall
with a welcome given by Dean
Hill. An old style mejodrama,
"The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter" was presented by a group
of students, directed by a student, Margaret Lee. Mary Jo
Devlin then gave a humorous
reading, "Curfew Shall Not Ring
Tonight," followed by the barbershop quartet of R. J. C, who
sang for the amusement of all.
Concluding the orogram, the J.C.
choir sang three numbers under
the direction of Sidney Suddendorf.
Parents and guests were conducted on tours through the
counseling bureau, college offices, classrooms, and laboratories by members of the Charles
H. Mayo Chapter of the Future
Teachers of America. An informal reception in Coffman Hall
concluded the evening.
ft CALL FOR HELP
The Jaysee Echo has been struggling against unusual obstacles this fall, what with the loss of its advertising manager,
Edythe LaBrasch, who did such a splendid1 job this summer; the
temporary resignation of Kenneth Ashcroft, who is returning to
the staff in this issue as sports columnist; and the resignation of
its managing editor, Sharon Hammond Maass, who deserted for
the marital state.
Added to this is the fact that most of its editors and staff
writers are engaged in part-time work after class hours and so
far have been managing the Echo on the run between school
and work. This leaves much to be desired on layout days, especially since volunteers from the rest of the student body have
not been forthcoming.
At present Ann Armstrong, former news editor, and Jean
Jacobson, former assistant editor, are taking over as co-editors,
while a sports editor will be taking over on the next issue, and
Dick Stehley has just volunteered his services to cover basketball
games. Jim Peterson has taken over as advertising manager
and with success.
However, there are stil'l many difficulties to be surmounted
if the Echo, the staff, and the advisor are to survive. This is
really a serious situation and only the students at RJC can help.
IF THEY WANT TO CONTINUE A SCHOOL PUBLICATION SUCH
AS OURS IT IS UP TO THEM TO SUPPORT IT AND TO WORK
ON IT. A LITTLE TIME AND EFFORT ON THE PART OF MANY
WHO ARE INACTIVE CAN SAVE A LIFE.
If you are a student at RJC, you should support its activities, and one of them is your paper. Why don't you volunteer?
We need more writers, more help on mailing and distribution,
-four or five helpers on layout, and a layout editor! Want a
job? .
