NUMBER 8
Sonja Elected Queen Queen to Reign
Over Sno-Week
Library Briefly
Goes to the Dogs
Last month the Rajesters were
responsible for the library going
to the dogs. This happened because of the cast pictures made
in front of Miss Ingli's Christmas
tree. Bizzy, the Dachshound, was
barking at Buster, the Spaniel,
and Buster was barking right
back again with all sorts of howls
and threats.
The books were unharmed,
however, because Jayne Birsa was
at the end of one leash, and
Marylyn Hovren at the end of the
other. Some really good Rajuco
pictures were secured.
Now the Rajesters are back on
the straight and narrow part with
rehearsals for "Dust of the Road"
with Roger Nelson, Scotty Clark,
Bill Tervo, and Ann Maher, and
with Diane Teigen as understudy
for Ann Maher. Miss McGhee
is directing "Income Tax." This
cast includes Marilyn Richey,
Larry Collins, Leif Erickson, Albin
Sterner, and Maxine Prokasky.
Regional Queen Candidate
Has Varied Interests
The balloting for the 1957 Sno-Queen is over, and the girl
who won the honor is the very lovely and blond Sonja Jost of
Aima, Wisconsin, who was sponsored by the Varsity Club.
Sonja was graduated from high school in Alma last year,
and this fall enrolled in the Medical Secretary finishing course,
which will keep her on our campus for only one short year. In
high school at Alma she was a cheerleader, in the band, Sophomore class president, and senator of the senior class. She was
also active in'the Library Club, Journalism, and the Class Plays.
Other special honors she received were: Homecoming Queen,
Valedictorian of her class, and the very coveted DAR award
for all-around good citizenship.
In JC Sonja is vice-president of the Secretarial Club and a
member of the Pep band.
Since her sponsor was the Varsity Club, it is reasonable to
assume that Sonja likes sports; in fact, she says that she loves to
watch all kinds of sports, but when she herself trie to play them,
she says she's not too good at it, especially swimming. Venison is her favorite food, but she loathes cottage cheese. Her
pet peeve in people is people who keep her standing on a cold
street corner waiting when they are late.
Following graduation Sonja wants to get a job in Winona
either at a clinic or a doctor's private office as a medical secretary.
—And for all you boys, she has a steady boyfriend.
The RJC Sno-Queen will now be entered in the Regional
Queen contest. Pictures of all the candidates will be sent to
all the schools. They will have them for two days and then
vote, voting for anyone but their own candidate.
The resudts of the final election, Friday, January 11, showed
Sonja Jost as the Sno Queen-elect
of R. J. C. To be crowned at
the Sno Week Convocation February 15, Sonja will replace Joyce
Rupkalvis. Her attendants will
be Jean Jacobson and Pat Carr,
and they will rule over the many
forthcoming activities.
Sonja will be entered in the
regional basketball queen contest, of which the winner will
rule over the tournament in February. The student body will
probably vote for all the queens
before that time.
Plans Under Way.
For Big Week
The social committee, under
the chairmanship of Augie
Schleicher, has made several
plans for the comng Snow Week.
Snow Week starts out with a
bang with the Coronation Convocation planned by Diane Teigen
and her Convocation Committee.
After the queen has been crowned, she reigns along wth her attendants during the ensuing week.
That evening, February 15, the
Rochester Junior College basketball team plays against *\ustin
Junior College. Following the
game there will be a mixer and
presentations of the Rochester and
Austin Junior College queens.
Next on the agenda will be a
toboggan party on February 19.
The location will most likely be
the Country Club. However, this
depends greatly upon whether or
not the weatherman is willing to
cooperate with us or not.
Snow Week comes to a grand
final climax at the dance at the
Pla-Mor, Friday the 22nd. Johnny Roberts with his eight piece
band and vocalist will play for
the evening's dancing pleasure.
The theme for the dance has not
yet been divulged. Inside //ord
has it that 1957 Snow Week is
going to be the "biggest, best,
and the most fun of any preceding Snow Week ever."
