Guest speaker will be Minneapolis Tribune's educational writer,

The speaker for this year's
Junior College graduation, which
will be held June 5, at 8:15 p.m.
in Central School Auditorium will
oe Richard P. Kleeman, Education
vriter for the Minneapolis Tribune.
Mr. Kleeman was born in New
York City and attended schools in
New York state and Switzerland.
He graduated from C h o a t e
School, Wallingford, Connecticut
in 1940. A. member: of Phi Beta
Kappa, he obtained his A.B, degree in 1.946 from Harvard College at'Cambridge,- Massachu-'
setts. While in military service he
served in Japanese language
translation and interpretation with

Scholarships and Honors
Given at Spring Banquet
Almost the entire junior college student body and the faculty
filed into the Country Club on the evening of May 19, for the annual
school banquet. The main dining room, covered with pink overhead
streamers and featuring a large bubbling pool near the entrance,
carried out the theme of the dinner, "Sayonara." Each table, as
well as fhe program for the evening, designed by Kent Penwarden,
highlighted the same general theme.

Then the dinner of roast beef
was served.
Immediately following the dinner, Dr. Fred King, assistant to the
Superintendent of Schools, gave
a brief speech in which he thanked the students for their invitation and fine cooperation in the
school system. Continuing, he
spoke of education in America
and emphasized the differences
also found among other foreign
countries. Concluding, he showed
how America has progressed its
hope for the future.
Fran Washburn, fhe Student
Council- President-, then presented
the gavel to Tom- Seldon,- next
year's president. This annual presentation bestows upon the receiver a responsibility and a great
honor.
O.A. Sfocke Co. offered engineering scholarships to two eligible
freshmen men. Walter Swenberg
presented each of these to Alan
Ackerman and Chester Johnson.
The three Rochester banks contributed $100 scholarships that
were given by Herbert Halvorson
in this order: The Northwestern
National Bank, Kay Giese, pre-
education; First National Bank,
William Odenberg, business administration; Olmsted County Bank,
Marcia Nelson, S.L.A. Ruth Cris-
man then presented the Altrusa
Scholarship to Joyce Vinton, medical secretarial student. Following this, Dr. R. D. Pruitf awarded the Rochester Community
Foundation Scholarship to Kent
Penwarden, physics major.
The highlight of the evenings,
the presentation of the awards
was next. Sue Vandenberg, for
outstanding scholastic abilities and
fine school.cooperation, was given the American Legion Award.
This year's, booster cup. winner,
Fran Washburn, was presented
with the go.ld cup, and his runner-
up, Ron Beyer, received a pin of
high recognition. Mr. Short and
Mr. Walton then gave the Gold-
