Spring Banquet
I  Highlights Awards
The Junior College all-school banquet was held Monday night
May 25, in the Elizabethan Room of the Kahler Hotel. The theme was
"Bon Voyage." About 250 students and guests attended. Before the
dinner, a candle lighting ceremony was held, in which freshman girls
Ricky Koppitz, Pom Madsen, Connie McAdams, Mary Jane Murphy,
Nancy Nee,  Bryn  Vander Wegen,  and Jo Ann Williams took  part.
■ Following the banquet, Dean Hill gave a greeting, and the ceremony in which this year's student council president, Tom Seldon,
presented the gavel to president-elect, Earle Lewis, took place.
Next came the presentation of scholarships. Engineering scholarships were won by Bruce Evans and Richard J. Willis; bank scholarships
were won by Joe Brough, Floyd Shaw, and David Veeder. The

year's Rajuco is Karen Haht, a
freshman enrolled in pre-education. Karen 'has worked on the
Echo and is a member of Phi
Theta Kappa. She plans to continue her education at the University of California.

To Speak At
Commencement
Dr. Robert B. Kamm, Dean of
the College of Arts and Sciences,
Oklahoma ' State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, will be guest
speaker at the R.J.C. commencement exercises. His subject will be
"Leadership  in  a  Democracy."
Dr. Kamm 'has been Dean at
Oklahoma State University since
August 1, 1958. Previous to this
he was a high school teacher,
Dean of Students at Drake University from 1948-1955, and Dean
of Basic Division and of Student
Personnel af Texas A and M from
1955-1958.

At Commencement
The Rochester Junior College
commencement exercises, at which
Dr. Robert B. Kamm, Dean of the
College of Arts and Sciences of
Oklahoma State University, will
give the main address, will be
held in Central Auditorium on
Thursday, June 4, at 8:15 p.m.
The freshman orchestra, under
the direction of Mr. Willard Johnson, will play the traditional
"Pomp and Circumstances," to
which the graduates, followed by
faculty members and guest speaker, will march from Coffman Hall
to  Central   Auditorium.
Reverend Don A. Bundy, pastor
of the Rochester Congregational
Church, will give the invocation.
Following this, the Girls Trio, composed of Jane Hammond, Eloise
Mieras, and Kay Giese, and the
■Boys Quartet, Barry Clapper, Hal
Nelson, Charles Caflisch and
Gary Peters will present several
numbers. -,
Dr. James B. Moon, Superintendent of Schools, will present
the comencement speaker, Dr.
Kamm, whose talk is entitled
"Leadership in a Democracy."
Following his address, Dean Hill
of R.J.C. will present the graduating class to the president of the
Board of Education, Mr. JOmes
Willis, who will present the diplomas and  certificates.
After the presentation of degrees, Reverend Bundy will give

Scholarship was given to Chester
Johnson, and the Rochester Education Association Scholarship to
Dorothy  Mitchell.
Following this, the traditional
awards were presented. Earle
Lewis presented the coveted Booster Cup award to Tom Seldon.
Kay Giese, recipient of the Golden R presented to an outstanding
J.C. woman, was presented her
award by Miss Marie Matt. The
Golden R for the outstanding
J.C. man was presented to Alan
Ackejman by Mr. William Walton.
Donald Short presented the Recognition Award which was won
by Nancy Kling. An award presented for the first time this year,
the Activity Award, was presented
to Judd Thompson by Robert Wise.
The American Legion Award was
presented to Dorothy Mitchell by
Leonard Davis.
Musical entertainment for the
program was furnished by the
Junior College male quartet,
Charles Caflish, Barry Clapper,
Hal Nelson, and Gary Peters, under the direction of Willard Johnson. They sang "Rigaletto Quartet" by Verdi, "Close Harmony"
by O'Hara, and the 'J.C. Alma
Mater."
