Nominated at
Pep Assembly
The Pep Assembly held last Friday in Coffman Hall will be remembered as one of the best
ever. Although attendance was
low, the cheering more than made
up for this. Jaycees have rarely
been so enthusiastic or yelled so
loudly—This may be due to the
fact that Dean Hill led the cheers.
Dean Hill, along with three
other faculty members, was sentenced by "Judge" Joe Brough
and his student jury to perform a
barbershop quartet number and
lead the student-body in a cheer.
Dean Hill, Mr. Lavine, and Mr.
Bateman proved to be good
sports, however, and the Pepfest
was successfully launched by their

David Veeder, Dave Lostegaard and Joann Hammond, part of
the large production crew for the show.
Pajama Game, a light, gay
musical comedy set in a pajama
factory, has very good character
parts and an excellent musical
score. Pajama Game is the biggest undertaking ever attempted
by the J.C. dramatics department,
requiring more student participation, more scene changes, and
consequently more sets.
This show will set several firsts,
since it is the first major musical
produced by the school, represents the first time a J.C. show
has ever been scheduled to be
performed two nights, and is the
first time an orchestra will be
used for the music.
Despite the magnitude of this
undertaking, which will employ
over 100 students, not counting
the orchestra, Mr. Robert O. Wise
Jr., director of the production,
said, "Progress on The Pajama
Game has been excellent. We
are where we should be in our
rehearsals, and the show has
been progressing steadily."
When the show Pajama Game
appeared on Broadway, it set
some firsts in its own right, for it
was the first "shirt-sleeves" musical comedy ever produced successfully, in which the action is
set in an everyday American situation with ordinary people as the
principal characters.
The story revolves about the
issue of whether or not the garment workers in the factory are
going fo strike to receive a seven
and one-half cents raise from the
Sleep-Tite Pajama Company. The
characters in the order of their
appearance are as follows:
Hines, the jealous time-study
man, played by David Kirkwood;
Presz, the Don Juan president of
the labor union, played by Vern
