Worthy Students
Rochester Junior College students interested in obtaining
scholarships for the 1960-1961
school year may obtain application blanks from t h e Dean's
office.
The scholarships offered this
year are as follows:
Two $100 engineering scholarships, offered by the O. A. Stocke
Company, and the Utility Sales
Company,-
Three $100 scholarships for
students in any field offered by
the First National Bank, Northwestern National Bank, and the
Olmsted County Bank and Trust
Company;
One $150 scholarship for a
student graduating from Junior
College this spring planning to
continue his education, offered
by the Rochester Education Association,-
And a $250 scholarship offered
to the most outstanding student
at J.C. planning to go on to
school at a four-year college
offered by the Rochester Community Foundation.
"High Wide 60's" is the theme
for the annual J.C. Spring Banquet to be held in the Elizabethan
and Royal Coach Rooms of the
Kahler Hotel on May 26.
The Student Council, under the
advisorship of Miss Evans, has
already begun to make preparations for this event. Individuals
and committees have been assigned fo perform such special duties
as the printing of tickets and programs, the arrangements for musical entertainment, and the arrangements for special guests.
The Student Council as a whole
will plan the decoration of the
tables and the seating arrangements for the head table and
special guests. The master of
ceremonies for the banquet will
be Ron Smith, sophomore class
president.
Among the awards to be presented are the Booster Cup, Golden R, Participation, Recognition,
and American Legion Awards. The
winners of these awards, with the
exception of the Booster Cup winner, will be chosen by the faculty
with the aid of a point system.
In addition, the annual candle-
lighting ceremony and the presentation of a gavel to the newly
elected Student Council president
will take place.

Smyth New Chief
The Echo Editorial Staff for next year has been selected with
Blake Smyth as Editor-in-Chief, Jan Ridenour as News Editor, Lynda
Geist as Feature Editor, and Don Opheim as co-Sports Editor.
Handling the advertising accounts of the paper next year will be
Chuck Johnson, Business Manager, and Jim Aaby, Assistant Business
Manager.
Delta Psi Sets
Banquet Date
The annual Rajesters banquet
and Delta Psi Omega initiation
will be held at 6:30 p.m. on
Monday, April 11, at the Markay
Dining Room.
Guests of honor for the occasion will be Mr. and Mrs. Lavine, Mr. and Mrs. Siem, and Mr.
and Mrs. Johnson. Speakers will
be Dick Edwards, Delta Psi Omega
President, and Mr. Wise, Grand
Director of the Rochester Junior
College chapter of Delta Psi
Omega.
Twenty new members will take
their pledges to Delta Psi Omega
following the banquet. Entertainment for the evening will be
provided by the new members,
who will present skits as a part
of their initiation. These skits will
be taken from full-length plays.
At least one hundred persons
are expected to attend the 1960
Theatre Banquet. Invitations have
been sent to all theatre workers
for fhe current year.
Blake, a Lourdes graduate, has
been active this year as a columnist in the feature section of the
Echo, writing "Sayings From a
Soapbox." She is enrolled in the
Science, Literature, and fhe Arts
course and has been active in the
following clubs and organizations:
Gamma Rho, Cheerleading, Rajesters, and Newman Club, besides holding a part-time job.
Jan Ridenour, a John Marshall
graduate, has been very active on
the Echo as a news and club
reporter. Besides being a member
af Gamma Rho, she is vice president of S.N.E.A., vice president
and social chairman of Newman
Club, a member of the Choir,
Chairman of the Student Council
Convocation Committee, and a
member of Rajesters. Jan is enrolled in J.C.'s Pre-Education
course.
Lynda Geist, the Echo's future
Feature Editor, is also a John
Marshall graduate, enrolled in
the S.L.A. course here. She has
been working on the Echo feature
and news sections, and is a member of Gamma Rho. Active in
Rajesters, she served on the props
committee for "Pajama Game"
and the costume committee for
