Freshman Told
How to Study
For Exams
"Preparing for Examinations"
was the title of Mr. Davis's freshman orientation lecture which he
gave on October 4. In it he
stressed the idea that examination
success is determined by distributed study followed by a systematic review. He also stated that
a student must ta'ke an exam with
the right attitude, considering it
a challenge and a teaching device rather than a punishment.
He listed ten steps as essential
examination preparation. These
include periodic reviews, knowledge of the type of test to be
given, concentrated study at least
two weeks ahead of time, a review of the text and lecture notes,
and preparing an outline of the
material to be covered in the
exam.
The remaining five procedures
include composing sample questions, discussion with two or three
other people, a notation of what
the instructor emphasized, a thorough preparation, and a good
night's sleep before the exam.
