Echo Gets lst Class Rating
In Nation Wide Competition
Rochester Junior College's JAYSEE ECHO has been awarded a
first class certificate of merit by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. In the nation-wide rating conducted by Columbia University, the
ECHO scored 909 out of the possible 1000 points in the 37th annual
judging.
In addition to receiving the certificate of achievement, the ECHO
Publication staff received the C. S. P. C. rating and evaluating score-
book, NEWSPAPER FUNDAMENTALS FOR SCHOOL PUBLICATIONS,
which gives a composite of the fundamentals of journalism as they
apply to student publications, outlines established practices and techniques essential to the production of a good publication, and gives
a rating to the paper on these fundamentals.
These fundamentals of school
newspaper publication have been
reduced to a numerical scoring
system which the judges use in
scoring the entries in the annual
C. S. P. C. contests. This score-
book gives constructive criticism
for the newspaper editors and
advisors to use in improving the
specific portions of the paper that
need more work.
The breakdown of the Echo
scoring is as follows.- in the Content division, 274 out of a possible
