Nine faculty members will be
working on a special R.J.C. workshop this summer from June 20
to July 21. The main objective of
the workshop will be the writing
of a new student handbook, which
should be in print by the time
classes start next fall.
In addition to writing the student handbook, the faculty will
also work on the master plan for
1965-1966. Also a community
survey of selective occupations
will be made by Mr. Reed, who,
as advisor for the new R.J.C. work
program, is especially interested
in the subject. There will also be
alumni follow-up projects this
summer.
Faculty members attending the
workshop are: Miss Evans, Mr.
Jansen, Mr. Kortz, Mr. Lavine,

Dean Charles E. Hill has announced that William Walton,
R.J.C. physics instructor since
1952, has resigned his position
effective July 21.
Besides teaching sophomore
physics, Mr. Walton has also been
active on various college and
R.E.A. committees, and has also
worked on eight, and directed
three Science Fairs. He has,

Will Address
'61 Graduates
Rochester Junior College will
hold its forty-fifth annual Commencement exercises at Central
High School Auditorium on Thursday, June 8, at 8:00 p.m. Superintendent of Schools Dr. James
Moon will preside over the ceremony.
The ceremony will begin with
the processional, "Pomp and Circumstance," played by organist
Jim Lobland. When the graduates have taken their places, the
Reverend Merle Dunn of the
Homestead Memorial Church of
fhe E.U.B. will give the invocation.
Joan Burrows will then sing Rogers
and Hammerstein's You'll Never
Walk Alone.
The speaker for the evening
will be Wilbur Elston, who is the
Editor of the editorial page of the
Minneapolis Tribune. Mr. Elston
is widely traveled, and has just
returned from a six-week tour
through the Far East, He will
speak on the topic "Youth On the
Move," emphasizing the deep involvement of youth in world politics. Mr. Elston will refer to the
political life and changes in countries such as Korea and Turkey,
where the college students have
done so much to change the
government.
Dean Hill will follow Mr. Elston
on the program, and will present
the graduating class. The class
of 1961 numbers 120, and is the
largest class ever to graduate
from Rochester Junior College.
James Willis, President of the
Rochester Board of Education will
present the diplomas to the graduating students. Following this,
Reverend Dunn will give the benediction, after which the newest
R.J.C. alumni will recess.
