Diane Lifto has been chosen
editor-in-chief of the Echo for the
1962-63 academic school year.
The new Echo Staff was announced recently by Celie Hick, present editor-in-chief. Diane has had
previous experience working on
the John Marshall high school
Rocket staff and Jaysee Echo.
Vicky Olson was named news editor. Laura McNulty will take Carmen Starkson's position as feature
editor. John Murray will be replaced by two business managers,
Ronald Meline and John Timmer-
man. Sandy Trapp will take Rita
Fitzgerald's and Sharon Singfield's
job as typing heads. Janice Gier-
loff and Mary Stull will replace
Kathy Radway as circulation
head, lone DeRocher and Judy
Mattison will replace Nancy Fiksdal as distribution heads.
Miss Marie Matt will continue
to be the advisor. The assistant
editor was considered for a major
position, but she does not plan to
return to JC next year.
Students, faculty members and
their wives and husbands, Dr. and
Mrs. Moon, Dr. and Mrs. King,
members of the School Board, and
guests, close to 400 in all attended the Annua! RJC Awards Banquet in Wesley Hall of the First
Methodist Church, on Tuesday'
evening, May 29. ,The theme developed throughout the program
was Future Unlimited, for which
Charley McCarthy designed the
menu and program. Master of
Ceremonies was Kenzie Phelps,
sophomore class president, and
Verne Shea, Student Council President, officiated during the presentation of next year's Student
Council officers af a candlelight-
ing ceremony. Introduced to the
assembly were: Gerald Wolfbauer, council representative; Bill
Handke, president; Benny Clark,
vice-president; and Sandra Brown,
secretary.
Preceding the dinner, Dave Kubiatowicz gave the invocation,
while fhe J.C. Aires, JC's select
singing group, presented some
musical selections after the dinner
to introduce the presentation of
awards and scholarships. Dean
Charles Hill greeted the students
and guests and spoke on the
progress made at JC this year.
Following Dean Hill's speech,
Verne Shea presented the gavel
to Edward Villwock, Student Council president elect.
A number of scholarships, for
which there were many applicants, were announced both to
deserving freshmen and sophomores, the donors of which were
introduced by Miss Mary Goette,
member of the faculty scholarship
commtitee.

46th Annual Grad
Exercises Held;
Melby To Speak
The 46th Annual Commencement of Rochester Junior College
will be held in Central Auditorium
on Thursday, June 7, at 8:15 p.m.
There wil be 157 graduates.
Dr. James V. Moon, Superintendent of Schools, is presiding at
the Commencement Exercises. The
processional, "Pomp and Circumstance," will be played by freshman, Mary Ann Berti.
Dr. Ernest O. Melby, distinguished professor of education at
Michigan State University in East
Lansing, Michigan, will be the
guest speaker at the 1962 RJC
Commencement Exercises on Thursday, June 7 in Central Auditorium. Dr. Melby is a native of
Minnesota and received his B.A.
degree at St. Olaf College and
his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at
the U. of M.
Before his present position at
Michigan State, Dr. Melby* was
professor and dean of education
from 1945 to 1956 at New York
