Frosh Nominate Tues.
Nominations for Freshman Class Officers will be held at the
end of Orientation period next Tuesday, September 25, in Coffman
Hall.
Officers to be nominated include class President, Vice President,
Secretary, and Student Council representative. These officers will join
Sophomore Officers elected last year.
Mr. Robrt Wise, Dean of Student Affairs, urged: "Freshmen should
be thinking of good candidates to nominate Thursday.
Following the nomination, a primary election will be held on
Wednesday, October 3, and the final on Friday, October 5.
Election ballots will be counted by Mr. Wise and Student Council
President Ed Villwock, and the results will be announced at the Beanie
Ball, Saturday night.
Student Council Plans
Decor of Co-ed Lounge
The RJC Student Council is now making plans for decoration of the
co-educational student lounge on the west side of first floor, according
to Robert Wise, Dean of Student Affairs.
The lounge was constructed during the summer by joining two
classrooms. It replaces separate lounges for men and women.
"Some possibilities for the co-ed lounge being considered are
wood paneling for the walls, drapes along the west windows, wall-to-
wall carpeting, and attractive modern furniture in many groups,"
: Mr. Wise explained.
At that time there was a possibility of decorating the lounge
immediately and paying for the
work 'from the Student Atcivity
Fee. The possibility was rejected.
Instead it was decided to make
redecoration part of the JC budget for the 1962-63 college year.
That forced a decoration delay
while the Rochester Board of Education and City Common Council
voted budgeted appropriations.
After deciding fo wait budget
action, the Student Council had to
decide whether to open the lounge
before or after decoration.
"It was felt the students would
want a place in Coffman to
smoke and would understand present limitations while looking forward to better things in the future," Wise said.
The lounge will be closed in
November while the decorators
work.
onday Tryouts
Set for One-Acts
Tryouts for thirty-eight speaking
parts in the first productions of
the RJC dramatics season will take
place next Monday and Tuesday
in Coffman Hall.
All students of the college are
welcome to try out at either 3:30
or 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 25, or 7:30 p.m. Tuesday,
September 26, according to Robert Wise, the director.
No previous acting experience
is necessary and students need
appear for tryouts only once, Mr.
Wise emphasized.
The productions for which tryouts will be held are two one-act
melodramas, and a one-act comedy. The three plays are similar
to last year's review "Best of
Broadway," seen at several local
high schools including John Marshall.

Growth Brings Junior College Additions
Growth and progress have necessitated additions and reconstruction in Coffman building this
year, including a co-educational
lounge and new faculty office
spaces.
On the west side of the building
a new co-ed lounge replaces the
separate men's and women's
lounges. The new lounge, which
has yet to be decorated, will be
finished in November.
JC students now have a room
designed specifically for homemade lunches. The Jacket Beehive
on the west side of first floor provides tables and a place to buy
beverages.
The northeast corner of the
basement has been converted to
classroom facilities.
The old darkroom, which was
located on the east side of the
basement level, is now a new
men's locker room. The new darkroom is on the fourth floor.
The north balcony of the north
gym has been remodeled into
three offices which accomodate
eight faculty members. The east
balcony of the same gym will be
used for a faculty work room.
Room 302 also has new offices
which accomodate four teachers.
The women's faculty lounge has
been moved to the third floor, and
the faculty men's lounge is on the
second floor.
The medical secretarial room
has thirty new electric typewriters.
JC has received 400 new tables
and desk-chairs, which are scattered among many classrooms.
New Council Office
Opens in Room 203
One of the many new features
of the Rochester Junior College
this fall is a Student Council office, located in room 203 — East
side.
This will be the first time in JC
history the Student Council will
have a room reserved for its use.
The office will be the scene of
most Council meetings and all
committee sessions.
In addition, any club or campus
organization may hold executive
board or committee meetings in
the room. Club presidents should
schedule meetings in advance by
seeing Student Affairs Dean Wise.
