Area Science Fair
Viewed As Success
The fourth annual Rochester
Area Science Fair was held in
Coffman Hall last Thursday and
Friday. There was an approximate total of 148 entries from
three grade divisions: Elementary,
Junior High, and Senior High.
There was also one kindergarten
entry.
The purpose of the Science Fair
is to allow a student to use his
initiative and go beyond routine
class work, while at the same
time he is learning and communicating his knowledge to others.
Only Junior and Senior High division projects were judged. Merit
for projects was based on (1)
scientific thinking shown in meeting the problems involved in the
project, (2) creativity in the solution of problems and use of materials, and (3) presentation of
the project in the final exhibit.
Projects which received a gold
seal are eligible for entry in the
regional science fair in Austin on
April 6-7. Twenty-eight projects
received gold seals.
About 1,500 people viewed the
exhibits. A special exhibit was
presented by the Speleology Club
of John Marshall Senior High
School.
Mr. James Wignes, Physical
Science and Chemistry instructor
at the college planned the fair
and acted as coordinator.

Heyl let's Twist
Twister" To Hit RJC Tonight
The Twist is really moving into
our cities. From the Peppermint
lounge in New York City to the
Surf in Los Angeles, and now,
•fellow students, we here in Rochester have our chance to get into
the Act (limelight).
Tonight from 9-12 the Social
Committee is putting on our first
twister of 1962. The Varsity Club
will sponsor the twister, with a
short skit between intermission.
You can brush up your smiles for
some good chuckles as we watch
the Varsity Club enter the faculty
and students' homes getting a person to person view of them.
The Furys will be present to
give us some of their hot twisting
music. You can look forward to
some fast medleys like the venturers do, so be sure and wear
your stompin' shoes.
The Furys have recently had an
eight-week engagement at Wei-
derholt Supper Club. Incidentally,
they have been called back for
an additional four weeks. They
also have a fan club in Red Wing.
Bill Suk, Pete Carryer (JMHS senior), Larry Poffenberger, and Marv
Walhberg with their many talents
will be sure to give us a twistin'
good time- Refreshments will be
served.
