SERVING THE COUNTY
'HE County Commissioners appropriate about $4,600.00 each
year for library service. This includes a share in the service
at Ancker Hospital and the County Home, as well as the service
to rural residents through the County Department of the
Central Library. The rural schools transfer their book fund to supplement the amount appropriated by the County. This fund of approximately
$800 each year is used exclusively for books for the schools.
To give everyone an equal chance the book wagon pictured above
makes three trips weekly, carrying about 600 books and magazines to
schools, stores, and crossroads, where men, women, and children meet to
browse in the "library on wheels" and select books for their week's reading.
