HOW THE LIBRARY HELPS THE SCHOOL

'OW does the St. Paul Public Library serve the schools?
Through its School Division, our Public Library is rendering a service to the high schools the value of which can
hardly be estimated. We of the newer schools, limited in
our resources, are especially dependent on the Public Library for additional recreational reading, reference books, and material for special
Reading in the seventh and eighth grades, which should be extensive
as well as intensive, is directed by the teachers of literature. In each
class room so used, the pupils have access to a class room library set
supplied by the Public Library. That these four hundred books are much
appreciated is proved by the circulation count of about eighteen hundred
for the first three months of this school year.
The new type of teaching requires independent resea
