The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County was established in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1932 to collect, preserve and disseminate the history of Clay County. Collections include the Flaten/Wange Glass Plate Negative Collection. The negatives are the work of two photographers, S. P. Wange of Hawley and Ole E. Flaten of Moorhead. The Society has contributed to Minnesota Reflections 75 images shot by Flaten of Moorhead street scenes, events and institutions between 1879 and 1929. These include photos showing steamboats on the Red River, Concordia College and Moorhead State Normal School and the development of Moorhead from a frontier town to a regional commercial and educational center.
