Teacher Guides to Minnesota Reflections were developed as a special resource for K-12 teachers and their students. The guides, written by 13 teachers from across the state, aim to help teachers use the photos, maps, documents, and sound recordings in the collection to meet state or national academic standards. The guides address all grade levels. While each focuses on one grade level, many provide advice on how to use the with students in other grades. The guides address standards in six subject areas and across all grade levels:
The Minnesota Digital Library’s Teacher Guides project began in 2011. Marian Rengel, MDL Outreach Coordinator, worked with an advisory group of school media specialists and teachers to create the scope of the guides and to recruit teachers to write the guides. Advisory Group members were: Mary Alice Anderson, Marcia Applen, Mary Johnson, Sue Tabaka-Kritzeck, and Ann Woell. The first year brought in 49 guides; year two brought in 24 more guides.
