Abstract of notes of Hail storm suffering in Chippewa Co. 59 families suffered, containing 107 adults and 164 children. Loss of crops total of 18 families. The crop saved by others is reported as of little value; “un- salable,†“screenings,†“dust,†“mills will not grind it,†“only good for seed,†��not fit for seed,†etc. Plowing has been done by 40; by 19 not done. A few work rented land. Real estate is mortgaged by 45. Personal estate mortgaged by 22. Both real and personal by 17. Debts due and unsecured are reported by 27, of whom 2 have no mortgaged property. All say they have no seed grain and no support; Some have no bread nor means of living. Loss of former crops is claimed by a good many; 20 in 1884 by hail, a few on other years by hail, some by fire, three or four by grasshoppers, one lost seven horses by glanders.
