In Camp near Corinth[,] Miss. May 23rd 1862 Dear Wife & Children Well I write because it is time & not because I I [sic] have any news We are very close to the enemy but whither their will be much of a fight or not seems doubtful. our Camp is full of rumours of all kinds but nothing definite is known Excepting that we are moving very carefully & slowly. I am yet unwell, quite so if not better when the battle is over, if there is one, I intend to get leave & try to get well. Our duty for a week has been most terribly slow. no men can stand such fatique long. Take good care of yourselves & write often Yours truly J. George
