A Grist Mill once stood where the present city of Anoka is currently located. This was on the east bank of the Rum River on the north side of the Main Street bridge.

Mallard, now a Minnesota ghost town, originally thrived during the logging boom of early Clearwater County. Photograph taken before 1909. By 1930, the town of Mallard had been abandoned.
Logging in Clearwater County by the Wild Rice Lumber Company. Cut logs are hauled out of the woods with a steam engine. The early days of the county were days of the big logging era. The Wild Rice Lumber Company and many others were the first in and first out of the county.
