Diary of Sgt. Philip Olson who served in World War I with the 25th Regiment Engineers, United States Army. After his enlistment, he departed New York for France on October 31, 1917, aboard the transport ship Agamemnon. The journey was eventful due to fears about German U-boats, and an accident which involved their ship being rammed. Upon arrival in France, Olson took part in a number of projects including the building of a docks and doing engineering at the front in Verdun. In addition, he had various duties including working for the supply sergeant, warehouse work, and distributing kits through camp. These duties were performed in a number of locations in France including Brest, Bordeaux, Verdun, and Paris. At the close of the war, Olson took a trip to Monaco and Monte Carlo. After the signing of the Armistice in November 1918, Olson stayed for a time in France. During this time, he and the 25th Engineers aided in construction and rebuilding projects. In March of 1919, Olson returned to the United States by way of New York.

This map of Duluth and the surrounding area as of 1865 was drawn by R.E. Carey based on old records and memoirs. The accompanying booklet, also by Carey, describes historical sites in Duluth, which are number coded on the map. Sites include early houses, a sawmill, a schoolhouse, an early brewery, the Vermilion Trail, and a stone quarry.

The eighth annual report of the Board of Park Commissioners consists of narrative reports from the board president, superintendent, and secretary, describing improvements to and maintenance of parks in 1898, new rules adopted by the board, detailed monthly financial statements, and lists of plants and trees planted. This report includes a list of board membership from 1887 to 1898, and photographs of Como Park, Indian Mounds Park, Rice Park, and Lake Phalen.
The eleventh annual report of the Board of Park Commissioners describes extensions to parks and parkways with updates on various park services from the board president, superintendent, and secretary for the year 1901. These narrative reports include plans for the future as well as charts detailing monthly financial statements, and monthly records for improvements to and maintenance of each park, with photographs of Como Park, Lake Iris Park, Shadow Falls Park, a park office building, and cattle in Como Zoo.

Chisholm, vice-president; William W. Painter, treasurer; Sheldon C. Carey, secretary. Trustees for the first year were Thomas Simpson, F. E. Shandrew, E. E. Youmans, William Sinclair and J. W. Stevens.

This image was made from a glass plate negative. It shows cavalry soldiers galloping south on Minnesota Avenue in St. Peter, between Nassau and Grace Streets. The building with the meat market later became the site of the offices of the St. Peter Herald newspaper.

Final Government Land Sale on June 20, 1904 at Old Washington school, on the north side of the school. 93,000 acres were sold and Thief River Falls was 8 years old.
Standing in front of the monument honoring the pioneers who founded Esko in 1872 is Finland's President Urho Kekkonen. He and his wife visited Esko and the museum site on their 1961 tour of the United States by invitation of President John F. Kennedy. Local bussinessman Emil E. Johnson is in the center of the photograph, with the Esko one-room school house in the background. At the far lower right corner of the photo is Minnesota Governor Elmer L. Andersen. The young man with the 1962 letterman's jacket, holding a camera, is the Esko School photographer, Glenn Nynas. Carlton County Sheriff Oscar Juntunen promoted the visit to Esko by the Kekkoknen party. Photographs and other items from the visit are displayed in the school house.

This first report of the Board of Park Commissioners for the year beginning March 1, 1887, and ending February 29, 1888, consists of a brief narrative describing the process of establishing the Park Board, election of officers, improvements made to Como Park using workhouse inmates, bonds authorized to establish a park fund, orders given to Public Works designating West St. Paul Park, Indian Mound Park, Carpenter Park, and Hiawatha Park, and a survey of the Mississippi River boulevard. A list of expenditures is included.

Dena Peterson (Mrs. W.A. Hopkins) stands before the log cabin in which she was born. Her father, Ole Peterson, hosted the 1866 meeting at which Pope County was organized. Originally in Gilchrist Township, the cabin was later moved to the courthouse lawn in Glenwood. The 1930 courthouse building is visible to the right and the county jail building stands behind the cabin.
The first vote recorded in Olmsted County was taken on October 13, 1857. The ballots were tallied and the totals were recorded by J. N. McLane, Clerk of the County Commissioners, on November 2, 1857. Voters cast ballots to determine if the proposed constitution would be accepted and for the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Congressmen, Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Attorney General, Clerk of the Supreme Court, Judge of the 3rd Judicial District, Attorney, Representatives, Senators, Clerk of District Court and Judge of Probate.
The Hillel Israeli folk dance group gathered in front of Northrop Auditorium on the University of Minnesota Campus to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state of Israel.

The founders of Pioneer Women, posed outdoors for this photograph. Pioneer Women was an international group of Labor-Zionist women who made Aaliyah to Palestine during the 1920s. They came with a feminist agenda, to be full partners in the political and economic work of building a Jewish state. A women's group formed in Minnesota to raise funds to support their counterparts in Palestine. This report includes a memorial to recently deceased board member John Henry Allen, and photographs of Riverside Park, Shadow Falls Park, and a foot bridge in Como Park.
