Cole's Mill , located in North Rochester, lost part of the roof and sections of the walls in the 1883 tornado. The tornado struck Rochester in the early evening of Aug. 21, 1883.

Stereograph with groups of people posed in front of hotel and around the exterior of the Geneva Beach Hotel. In 1896, J.L. Dickinson acquired the Alexandria Hotel at Geneva Beach from Mr. Letson, an early resort builder, and changed the name to the Geneva Beach Hotel. The hotel burned down on September 2, 1911.
Minnehaha Glen and Minnehaha Creek in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This image is by Arthur Adams, Minneapolis high school teacher, local historian, and photographer. Adams traveled throughout Minnesota, taking photographs to augment his lectures. His studio was located at 3648 Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis.
Elevator and Lake Superior & Mississippi Depot, Stillwater, MN. Elevator was erected in 1870 and has a capacity of 38,000 bushels. Lake Superior & Mississippi Division of the Northern Pacific Railroad was completed to Stillwater in 1871.
Stereoscope view of Grand Hotel. The Grand Hotel was built in 1883 by Miller and McMasters, a Scotch company, for nearly $100,000. The hotel was destroyed by the 1919 cyclone.
Note on back of photograph reads: About 1883 or 1884 taken from the G.N. depot, located between 5th and 6th Streets looking in a westerly direction. The following Morris Tribune article may refer to this photo as being one in a series of three. Mr. Elliott, the photographer, went out on the L.F. and D. road one day last week and made three photographs, instantaneous, of the snow plow and engine. In the first the engine and plow are at a stand-still; in the second the rate of speed is about eight miles per hour, and in the third is shown the effect on the plow in striking a drift at the rate of sixty miles an hour. Int the third picture nothing but a cloud of flying snow can be seen. Taken together, the three pictures make an interesting series. They are on sale at the gallery.
